I know some here rotate there EDC. Firearms I know alot of opinions on that . What are board thoughts about rotating your carry knifes. I am starting to do that with mine.Just to mix it up a bit . I always have some sort a lock blade strong side rear pocket .And a no lock back in strong side front pocket. What say you.

I change out every few days, once a week. Doesn't really matter as my usual cutting requirements are light so anything from a slip joint to a frame lock folder can suffice. This weekend it's a Rough Rider Sodbuster type with a liner lock. Earlier in the week it was a Chris Reeve large Sebenza 21.

My EDC knife is a Spyderco Delica. I don't rotate it out, unless you count switching between my purple one and my blue one. However, on the rare occasion I go somewhere a knife is allowed but my Delica is too big, I have a Ladybug that fits the bill.

I carry my knife as a tool, so I don't have the same concern for consistency as I would a carry gun. I don't rotate because I don't really have anything to rotate with (other than the aforementioned Ladybug). After settling on the Delica for my needs, I ended up selling my other pocket knives (a Benchmade, a Kershaw, and a few Emersons). Even when I had a variety, I didn't really switch them out much. The ones I carried the most were the Emerson Mini-Commander and Mini-CQC7.

I carry a Camillus pen knife made in the 1930's. Have for many, many years.

Why would I 'rotate' other knives?

If you have several knives you like that will serve your purposes, no reason not to use them all.

We all like to play with our toys.

I try to anticipate what cutting tasks I may encounter when I select knives I'll carry on a given day. There's also the dress code and bling factor of the day to consider. I appreciate knives for their usefulness, unique characteristics and beauty. I have no rotation pattern, but I do carry different knives at different times.

The only systematic rotation I do is to place a knife in the needs sharpening line. When I pull out a knife I want it to be very sharp.

Last week I was heading out to the CVS pharmacy down the block from me. As I was walking I patted myself down to make sure I had everything I needed. Wallet, keys, coins... no cell phone! Then I thought, I'm not going back for my cell phone I have three pocket knives on me.

Limited on EDC knives at the moment but mostly my Sog Trident tanto spring assist which is light but blade is close to 4 inches. Other times my Buck Alpha folder but use the belt pouch for this one.

These days, I usually carry two or three knives, because I like to play with my toys as well as my tools. The one knife that is a constant for me is Victorinox Alox Electrician. If I am going to be outdoors a lot, I will take an Alox Farmer instead, mostly for the saw. I will also carry either an Okapi Biltong or one of my Opinels that has been slimmed for pocket carry, either an 8, or more often a 6. The third knife will usually be a slipjoint, a Rough Rider Improved Muskrat, a Case peanut or a medium stockman. Or for a change of pace, it might be something else; today it is a Mercator Black Cat. Tomorrow it could be a douk-douk or an Antonini Old Bear.

I usually wear baggy wool/poly pants. The pockets are roomy and the right front will easily accommodate three knives plus a 4" Channellock plier. In the left fron go my keys, a Leatherman Micra and, and a Sears 4-way screwdriver. Am I a total nerd? That is a rhetorical question; you do not have to answer it.

Because of messed-up hands I need a knife I can open with one hand. Most days that's a flat-ground Spyderco Endura, and occasionally a SOG Flash II assisted opener. I'm fond of both, but I think the Spyderco is a more useful knife overall.

I've just obtained a slightly smaller Kershaw OSO Sweet spring-assisted model that I like very well so far. I might use it on dressier occasions (very rare anymore) or carry it in a side pocket as a spare to the bigger knives.

I carry my Benchmark auto 5000 when I'm going to town. If I'm out and about on my little farm, I have a plastic handled Buck lock blade that the NRA sent me. I carry it in a belt pouch. I also have a Swiss Army knife that I bought in Kovoso at the Austrian Army PX. I think I paid 15 euros for it.

Of course I have other knives, including a couple of folding Gerber Applegate models. I carry them every once and a while.

I rotate pocket knives for everyday use with no "possible trouble on sight" even though I also conceal carry.

But, if out of the comfort zone, the one hand opening modern "Swiss Army knife" is my goto.

My cutting tasks are relatively light, never much more than the tape on a cardboard box. I routinely rotate one of my knives. I never leave home without my Swiss AK in one vest pocket and a tactical knife or similar in the other vest pocket. I live in vests - the fact that they cover up my EDC gun came way after.

I used to but not on purpose.
I've got knives stashed all over the house. Same with with flashlights. Never know when you're gonna need one. When I'm heading out I just grab whatever knife's handy.
Now I always carry the CRKT Drifter my wife got for me. It's a nice knife, takes and keeps a good edge and has an excellent pocket clip. It rides clipped inside my right front pocket.

I have half dozen small single blade liner locks. Case Black Thorn
Gerbers, Bucks. The only rotation they get is to be sharpened
temporary replacement until I find where I left the case, or the
loss or breakage of one. I use to carry 3 blade Case Stockman
and Lock backs, only carry them as hunting knives now. Have
knives in the truck and a utility knife and a Klien Electricians
knife in my tool pouch when at work.

I've carried the same late gen 1 Spyderco Delica for a very long time. If something were to happen to it, I have several just like it. Legal pretty much everywhere, but I also have a modified Delica that has a 2.5" blade for when it isn't, primarily when I am in Chicago.

I collect knives or as my wife says - hoard them. I have to rotate to justify keeping them when the "when was the last time you used that knife" argument comes up. All within 60 days - give or take.

As an industrial electrician I do a lot of knife work and my usual EDC is either a Leatherman or a lock-back i.e. Buck 11o style knife in a sheath,a modern clipped folder in the LFP and a traditional slip-joint in the watch pocket

What knife I carry is (sadly) dictated by whether I'm going to be going to work, or not. If I'm going to work, I can't carry some of my favorites; Case Copper Lock, Case Tribal Lock, etc., because their blades measure in excess of 3" and will result in me being immediately fired. So... If I'm going to work, I pretty much stick with the Case Mini-Copper Lock, and reserve the larger, more favored blades for days off and weekends.

But, in answer to the question posited by wingriderz, I certainly do rotate through a wide variety of knives.

My Swiss Army knife's like my American Express card, I don't leave home without it. The only thing that changes is the model from time to time.

I've said it before (about carry guns) and I'll say it again about knives:

Same piece, same carry position and method, every day. Never have to worry about what I have, where it is, or how to deploy it when needed. No second thoughts, ever.

When I hear or read about peoples' "carry rotations" it rubs my last nerve raw.
