On Edge

[... yada, yada, yada ...]
When I hear or read about peoples' "carry rotations" it rubs my last nerve raw.
If I'm ever in Never Never Land I'll carry the same cutlass in the same sheath every day. In the mean time my yard chores do not have to get done that quickly.

I have no organized rotation. It just would not make sense to try to carry all my pocket knives at once. I like old designs like stockmans, trappers, jack knives and whittlers. At the moment I have a 45 year old large Winchester Trapper that was made by Carl Schlieper in Solingen. The only reason it gets the honor for a while is that I recently bought it.

No offense intended Lobo. Like all the folks around me, my knives are tools, not weapons.

I've always carried a pocket knife for as far back as I can remember. Now, because of arthritis in my hands and wrists (no grip strength to tear things open), I really have to have a knife handy. As I also pocket carry a pair of J-frame revolvers (New York reload) in my front pants pockets, I have to reserve the front pants pockets for my EDC handguns. As a result, I usually wear pants with cargo pockets and carry my "church knife" - small Swiss Army knife in one of the cargo pockets, and the CRKT Rescue Knife in a small nylon belt pouch on my belt at around the 8 o'clock position. The huge "flipper" on the CRKT knife means I can get the blade out fast, but unfortunately, because the inside surface of the flipper is sharpened to act as a seat belt cutter, you can't really wear the knife clipped to a pocket without it eventually cutting your pockets up. Because I can't carry a firearm at my workplace without getting fired and criminally charged (I'm a federal governmental employee), I recently added a third blade to my EDC knife collection - a Cold Steel Safekeeper push dagger. I'm no knife fighter, but to me, it's kind of hard to mess up a push dagger.

Regards,

Dave
