On-Line Car Purchase

Yes, yes I have, and am doing it again. I bought a car from MacMulkin Chevrolet in Nashua NH because he had the best price anywhere in the country, by a lot.

I have another on order with the same dealer.

A car warranty is good with any car dealer, of the same brand of course, in the USA.

Thousands of people do this every year, I see no problem.
You are correct on the warranty. Difference is if you bought the car from them, they will move you to the front of the line. If not, you are gonna have to wait your turn. Kinda like people wanting me to notarize their personal injury settlement documents from the TV lawyer. Yea...like THAT'S gonna happen

Most of that was true years ago, you would hear from the service department get it fixed where you bought it.

My last Vette <see Avatar< came out of Kerbecks in NJ had absoletuely no problem getting work done on it at a local dealer.

My 07 Z06 same deal. Most dealers that I know of divided the responsibilities to like new sales, used sales, parts and service and they all have to make a good enough profit to keep the owner/s happy. The department heads are very glad to have the work! Ladder will have no problem getting his C8 serviced in good time.

As a member of 3 car forums what I'm telling you for the most part is the M.O. of the car business today.

Caz I put in the initials M.O. as I though your eyes would gravitate to it quite fast!:D

My last vette was never in for warranty work ever, but was in for routine oil changes, alignment check, brake bleed, and coolant flush. It was the most trouble free car I ever owned.

GM pays for warranty work so I don’t think the local dealer will balk. Hope I don’t have to find out. :D

I just can't imagine anyone buying a car on line & never seeing it in person.

Especially a used car.

I'll only buy new cars, and I only buy them from local dealers.
Every brand, except Cadillac and Buick, has a dealership within five miles of me.

Get a rental car and drive the 300 miles. A rental car should cost a lot less than $195 shipping costs.

The $195 for 300 miles is no money maker for the dealer.

10 hours of road time otherwise for the buyer.

When I have looked at a used car, a main reason to view the carfax report was to see the origin location. I pass on cars that show they came from an auction many states away, and look for something that truly was a local trade if able.
Now in talking with dealer contacts I have, this year has been tough for them to get trades so auctions have been used far more than normal for inventory.
To the initial thread, i have negotiated with dealers for cars online that have been several hours away and the wife and I would just make a day trip of it to get one. I would not buy any car sight unseen, just my .02.

We bought two new cars and one used one over the phone after looking at them on the net.....we picked up in person 2-1/2 hours away. I would be okay with doing it again.

OK, how do you test drive a vehicle on line?

I recall following a brand new big dollar pickup into work one day (yes, it was this century). I noticed the rear end of the truck was offset about a foot (OK, maybe not that much, but very noticeable.) to the right of the front end on a straight road. I mentioned it to one of his co-workers and he bust out laughing. After he stopped, he said that the guy couldn't quit bragging about the deal he got. They were going to confirm the crabbing issue and video it to shut him up.

I have been screwed by relying on carfax twice. The only way I would buy it is go see it in person and then drive it home.
