........... Unusual and significant battles of the American Revolution was fought.

I am proud that my 4th Great Grandfather fought there for American Inpependence. You probably had ancestors there if they lived in the area that later became Va, NC , SC, & TN, esp the mountain areas.

The participants were mostly from the colonies on both sides.

The Battle of King's Mountain

God Bless our Country and may she survive any threat.

To the op thank you for the reminder.I too had a ancestor who was at Kings Mountain. After my wife started researching her family. She discovered a direct ancestor also. We thought it was interesting that there was a good chance our family's knew each other back then. God Bless Our Country

From what I've read this was a battle between Americans, the only Britain present being Major Ferguson. It was a savage encounter. As when Major Ferguson suppressed all attempts to surrender until he was shot from his horse and killed. The Tories threw down their weapons but the Revolutionaries continued to shoot, in spite of the efforts of their officers to stop them. King’s Mountain would be a much more candidate for the title of “massacre” than Paoli. Following the battle the Revolutionaries tried and hanged 10 Tory prisoners for offences of pillaging so it didn't end with the end of the battle.

Were they not all British Subjects until the Preliminary Articles of Peace Nov. 30, 1782? Paul Revere would not have said the British are coming because they were all British. He probably said the Regulars are coming. Larry

Another favorite is Cowpens where Daniel Morgan defeated the hated Banastre Tarleton.

Morgan was a true American Hero.

The massacre of Loyalists at King's Mountain was largely in retaliation of The Waxhaws Massacre carried out by "Bloody Ban" Tarleton. Daniel Morgan supposedly referred to him as "Banny."

My people came here in the late 1800's.

The civil war didn't make sense to me. It put Americans against Americans.
A lot of American blood was spilled. Why can't men talk to men and agreements be made without a war. The civil war was a black eye in our American history. We lost many good men back then. This great country is still somewhat divided today over it.

My ancestors emigrated here from Germany in 1731. They settled in Penn. & most were farmers. My grandfather told me they came for religeous freedom. They were Lutheran people. Had a ancestor that was a Captain in the Revelutionary war. He also said he had an uncle in the Civil war but that was before he was born in 1975. He didn't know much else as all were gone by then.No one else in my family served until I did ,1951 to 1960 Army National Guard.

This was a very significant victory which we needed badly after Cornwallis had destroyed and routed Gates' army at Camden in August!
It was big morale booster.

My first ancestor to be born in the Americas was 12 generations back great++++Grandmother. Born in 1760 in Jamestown Colony to parents from Ireland. Her husband and probably her father fought in the American Revolution. Over the decades that branch of my family migrated through the southern states and arrived in Texas from Alabama shortly after the Civil War. I'm the fifth generation born in Texas.
