On this date in 1983...

Terrorists attacked a Marine Base in Beirut, Lebanon with trucks loaded with explosives and tanks. Words cannot express my feelings. Over 41 years, lessons have been learned and information has surfaced to help reveal who did this and who was behind it. They deployed as a Peacekeeping Force. Many died.

Radical Islamic Terrorism has caused many problems around the world. At least one nation is trying to find peace through force, while much of the world talks about it to please everyone against it. Why are they fighting alone?

Prayers for all involved. Always remember. Sorry.

I lost a friend there, Captain Bill Winter USMC. He had just been picked for promotion to major. He was one of the good ones.

RIP, old friend.

One of my current co-workers, then a USMC sergeant, was there when it happened. He was not in the barrack at the time of the attack, but responded to it, and spent days working at the site. He doesn't talk about it...
