Ok, say the proverbial excrement hit the spinning rotating blades that circulate air, and you had to grab one gun, just one, from your current inventory of guns that you have in your safe right now, what would it be?
For me, and I'll explain my choice in a second, would be my Smith Outdoorsman. Why? Because I have more .38 Special ammo on hand than any other caliber. Not too mention with my Lee Hand Press I could load for it where ever I was, and the Outdoorsman can take the hottest .38 loads including the .38-44 level loads which could bring down a whitetail if need be and would work well for defense. I could load it lighter for small game as well. Since I don't have many rifles and only one shotgun, a handgun would be my best choice.

Thats a very hard choice as my first choice would be a rifle, but for a handgun it would be this s&w 29-2 .44 mag 5". My reason would be similar to yours as I have a lot of ammo in both .44 special and .44 mag.
It is also a powerhouse.

I have long pondered such a question, but the parameters of the moment continue to fluctuate.

At times such as a 629 in some short barrel seems best. Other times a 1911 or a 22 seem plausible.

On another day, such as a G34 and a half-dozen magazines stuffed full, gives an incredible array with minimal weight, easily belt comfortable.....leaving enough carry capacity for other items deemed appropriate.

Sorry I haven't been able to settle on ~something~

Sounds like a really bad day. I would probably have to run with my 629 Mountain Lion and as much ammo as I could carry. It's small enough to conceal when necessary and powerful enough to handle most any duty required.

My answer would vary depending on the specific circumstances. Since you specify only one gun, I'm assuming you mean that we're on the move.

If the situation is one where there is widespread violence with armed people being quite common...I'd grab either my AR-15 or HK91.

If, however, we're talking about something requiring definite stealth, I would likely take my Glock 19 with a half-dozen or more mags.

686 and/or 1911 - Depends on which room I'm in when it's time to go.....

This'n David,

45 ACP is very versitle, this pistol makes me look like a good shot and is as reliable as a machine can be. It'll feed anything from ball to an empty case, every time. Conceals and carries easily and well.

Very easy choice for me.

If it were to be a handgun, I would grab my ever present S&W 1911 (sku170261) in 45acp.

If it were to be a rifle, it would be a Marlin 30/30 lever action with a Nikon scope.

If it were a shotgun, it would be a Browning Auto 5 in 12 gauge, vented rib.

Different situations require different guns. Each situation can require a different gun.

What ever the situation I don't think I would choose a handgun from the safe, handguns are to buy me enough time to get to a rifle. So I would choose my most powerful and versatile rifle.

For me the answer is;
Winchester M70 .30-06 and it's reloading box.
I figure with this I can pick up all the short range weapons I want out of the dirt.

Les Baer supervarmint 1:9 twist 20" topped with a nightforce 5.5-22 md and a handfull of 30 round mags filled w/a handload topped with smk 69gr. They will shoot 10 shot clover leafs at 100 and 2-3 inch groups at 500 to the point of being boring.

Along in a holster would be my trusty 629 6.5 power port filled with 240 swc good to bust bowling pins out to 100 yards with iron sights. I know all the bottom feaders will cry heresy...what no glock 17, no 1911..sorry bottom feaders..I will trust my wheel gun for the close stuff and Les will rid the varmints well past a quarter mile.

If I had to choose from what I have, my rifle would be my Colt AR-15 HBAR and my pistol would be my Combat Masterpiece. The main reasons being I am a better shot with these weapons than the others I have, although I like my m-1 carbine and am just as good with it as the AR, I think ammo would be easier to come by than 30 carbine. If ammo wasn't an issue, I might just take the carbine instead. It's just an easy gun to shoot and I can keep most shots inside an 8" bull at 100 yards. Plus it's about 2 lbs. lighter than the AR.

The Combat Masterpiece just feels right and I am more confident with it than anything else.

If the excrement is still in the air I'll be grabbing my Sig P239 because it's always loaded and at hand. Once things settle a bit I'll get out my 610 and load up all 60 moonclips for it. As a fallback I have my Springfield XDm and 10 sixteen round magazines for it. Then I'll settle in and try to wait things out because with 520 rounds of 40 caliber I don't think I'll want to be doing much walking.

Handgun then it'd be my 3 inch 629. I can conceal it, hunt with it and protect myself.
If a rifle then it'd be an AR-15. I can hunt with it and protect myself and additional ammo should be easy enough to find.
If a shotgun then my Remington 870 Marine Magnum. It's 7 round capacity would be an advantage and 12 gauge shotshells should be available in slugs, buckshot and birdshot. If I had the time I'd probally hit it with some flat black spray paint to get rid of the shine.

What is a "bottom feader"? Is that anything like a "bottom feeder" If so I guess that I could be a bottom feeder because I just may take my Glock 31 with a hand full of mags as my one gun.

Six inch Model 28. It's my short barreled rifle. .38 and 357 should be readily available for a long time.

4" 617. I can get anything I need including a bigger gun with it. .22 is always going to be the easiest to carry or scrounge. Besides, I really like it.
Then again, my answer may be different tomorrow.

I'd grab my H&R USRA Pistol, because I like it and it has sentimental value. I wouldn't need to grab anything else from the safe because I'm already carrying adequate defensive firearms on my person.
