One Expensive 686...

This the same dude with the lunatic word-salad descriptions and interminable (though nice) pictures who pulled the same razzle-dazzle with a Model 19 last month that also "sold" for a stupid-high price.

I lean toward the shill explanation over the sucker one, though they aren't mutually exclusive...

It has always been my theory that the photos on G.B. are the
secret.
By the time the prospective buyer scrolls down through all those photos
he/ one becomes emotionally invested in the piece and may bid crazily.

We just had a 6 inch 586 in 99% condition in the store WITH the AAA serial
prefix and sold it for $650.
We probably could have made a killing on Gone-broker with this type of sales pitch.

I may list one of mine in the future with 53 photos just to see what happens.
But it won't be the nickel model 17. That one stays for a while.

I'll take it! :p

If anyone wants to fork over $1700 for my mint 686 I'll hand deliver it to them with a large pizza and three toppings, as well as a stack of back issues from Guns & Ammo.

I think what the seller was trying to say, was that he had 4 of the 686's in the same condition for sale for that amount.

I would think Ladder13's Nickel 17 would be rare. I think that is the first one I have seen.

I just picked up an Ultra Rare as new 4" 686-5 for app $550 with no Box. The 686-5 is the First to have MIM Parts, and the Last of the No Loc 686's.
I realize the old boy on Gun Broker could surely get $2,000 out of this rare beauty, but I think I will hang on to it, and shoot it a lot.
I just thought of something. That is not my rarest 686. I also have an Ultra Rare 4" 686-1 Power Custom Combat with a Clark Moon Clip Conversion. The work was done my the Old Revolver Master Ron Power himself about 20 years ago.

I will probably talk Ron back out of retirement again to do his Power Custom Combat work on the 686-5 shortly.

I just do not get what's going on with all these stupid buyers paying insane stupid amounts for guns recently ; just not this one but several others in the last month or so as well. If you do not know what you are buying, why would you spend crazy money. Its like me dropping 2,000 on a vase and do not know anything about vases, just blows my mind. It must be nice just to throw money down the drain and not have no worries in life. :)

You think its crazy now wait til we get closer to November

I was biding on this very 686 even though I noticed the rear sight blade was way to the left and the top part of the blade looked like it was dropped. I e-mailed the seller twice and called once and he said he would send me a photo of the top of the rear sight blade. He never did.
He also told me it was his uncle's gun (who passed away) yet in the ad he says it was his and he only fired 6 rounds by "yours truly".
The barrel looked like it was not canted and looked like it lined up OK so I was hoping when I bid that the sight blade was just knocked out of adjustment. I dropped out of bidding after I think $825. Still loooking for a 686-3 or -4 in that shape.

there are stupid people all over the internet. A couple of weeks ago I was looking on Ebay for some chip McCormick 38 super mags since midway was backordered. The only 10 rnd mag on ebay was priced at $147. I could buy 4 of them on midway for that if they were in stock. Last I saw the doofus was still trying to sell it. ended up just having to buy some 10rnd conversion kits for some of my 9rnd mags.

I wanted to take a hot shower after I read that ad...

I agree...I've actually looked at quite a few of that seller's items in the past few months...the descriptions are always the same bizarre ramblings. I've concluded that I won't bid on his items no matter how many pictures he posts. Something just isn't right there and this sale confirms that in my mind.

Someone must not care about money and really wanted that puppy.

She'll Take anything a .357 Magnum can Throw Her Way -- "THE TOUGHEST OF THE TOUGHEST" ! Don't Worry About a 686-3 Having to Make a Trip Back To The Factory, Because She's Built For a "LIFETIME" Of "ROCK SOLID SHOOTING" !

And he knows this because it was:

Shot with Only 6 Rounds By "Yours Truly" -- Then Cleaned and Stored in Safe For Years and Years !

You have to give the guy credit for all that work with the ad copy and pictures. It certainly paid off!

So the question is, are these people actually getting paid these ridiculous sums??

This is the same guy that sold the $1700 model 28 and $2000 model 19 right?

Shill bidders is my guess

Same here...something is definetly off with that person. I don't want to send them my money or try to deal with them. I forsaw problems just based on the incoherent ramblings and way over the top descriptons.

It swing both ways. One gentleman pays $200 for a beautiful 14-3 and a nut job pays out huge money for a 686-3. My wife pointed out the gap on the bottom of the grips which should have heald the bid down at least $25, but nooo...

I've been known to pay a little extra for a gun I really wanted, but where's the sanity here?

Well P.T. Barnum has finally reappeared and is still proving there's a sucker born ev

As long as there is no shill bidding or any other shenanigans, I can't blame the seller for trying to get the highest price for his product, no matter what it is. I do really think there are some really naive people out there, who got caught up in auction fever:eek:

I've thought it over, and if that dash-3 is worth $1700, my no-dash has gotta be worth more....

Here it is, I'm listing for $2500. Any takers? Lol.
