One of a kind melonite 3953

I thought the post at the other location with the pictures was interesting, although not accurate. The person who "did a favor" for S&W and got this 3953 says that they do not melonite any of their steel guns.

Actually, that is not true as they made special runs of 3rd Gen autos with melonite in 9mm, .40 and .45. In addition, they make at least two or three of their 1911s with melonite finish.

Sweet pistol. Too bad they don't make anything as nice these days. Tell me that Melonite 3953 wouldn't sell. Regards 18DAI.

Lucky fellow.

If S&W were to ask me what I'd want made, I'd ask for an all-stainless steel 3916 without a rail (not a real model number, but what I'd think it would be if made), and/or a 3913TSW Sc without a rail (or at least an integral machined rail) with a black finish Scandium aluminum frame and a Melonite treated slide ... both with the spring-loaded, decock-only option (which I have on my late-production 3913 and really find practical and useful for my needs).

Not gonna happen, but that's what I'd want made ...

I'm not a DAO-type guy when it comes to S&W 3rd gen guns, myself. I just prefer TDA.

Nice to dream, though.

As much as I like my CS9, G26 & SW99 9c, and felt the M&P 9c I handled and tried at the range was a very nicely balanced and ergonomic gun (and which was much easier to shoot rapidly & accurately than my M&P 40c) ... I still find the 3913 (and it's variations) to be an excellent model line when it comes to a compact defensive 9mm pistol.

I think S&W missed the boat by not making the 3906 in a reduced size (or an all-steel 6906, which I always thought should rightly have been called a 6913, with an all-stainless steel model being called a 6916). Talk about a couple of compact 9mm's that would absorb felt recoil and enhance controllability at the expense of only a little more weight ...

Mmmmmm, yeah. It'd be like shooting a .22. The 3913 is already one of the lightest-recoiling 9mm's around. A few extra ounces couldn't hurt.
