The 40 S&W is in my opinion one of the best rounds available on the market today. I love my .45 but I shoot the .40 the most. I just love it.

dkelly27,
My first experience with a .40S&W was an issued 4046 back in 1993. It was a bit of a jump for me going from carrying 9mm's and I gave up quite a few rounds dropping from 15 shot magazines in 9mm to 11 round magazines in the .40. BUT... that 4046 was a sweet shooter.

It was very heavy, being all stainless steel, but it helped tremendously with the snappy recoil of the .40. Many years later I find myself still carrying a Smith .40 and have a number of them in the collection. And while we can argue the benefits of the 9mm, .40 and .45 debate it's really all about shot placement. Someone once said carry the biggest gun you can carry. Another also said that a handgun was to tie you over until you could get to a rifle. I paraphrased and both statements are very true. In the mean time, I'm still happy with the .40 S&W. Glad you are too! :)

I never quite understood the appeal of the .40 until I ended up owning a 4006. It is now my favorite cartridge in a semiauto; ironically I find .45 ACP is one of my favorite cartridges in a revolver.

I understand the convention of denigrating the round as the ".40 Short & Weak," but I think that's just a witticism that keeps getting repeated because it is clever enough to offset its wrong-headedness. People who think that too much of anything is barely enough will always look down on perfectly sound solutions if they don't make enough noise or slam the slide back with enough force. The 10mm strikes me as overkill for most situations, and the .45 can be.

A fine round, and in a heavy tank of a gun like the 4006, an unbeatable one.

I totally agree with you Forsmithers and you to DCWilson.
