I never quite understood the appeal of the .40 until I ended up owning a 4006. It is now my favorite cartridge in a semiauto; ironically I find .45 ACP is one of my favorite cartridges in a revolver.
I understand the convention of denigrating the round as the ".40 Short & Weak," but I think that's just a witticism that keeps getting repeated because it is clever enough to offset its wrong-headedness. People who think that too much of anything is barely enough will always look down on perfectly sound solutions if they don't make enough noise or slam the slide back with enough force. The 10mm strikes me as overkill for most situations, and the .45 can be.
A fine round, and in a heavy tank of a gun like the 4006, an unbeatable one.
