One shot at a time ranges.

I have a question about those one shot at a time ranges. It seems like it would be really bad for auto pistols because it's locking into battery every shot. IDK, just seems like it would be bad for a gun to always be doing that. Probably not since the gun is designed to do that but seems like it would eventually be a lot of wear on the gun. Does this seem logical to you guys or am I just paranoid?

The gun, if a semi auto locked breech design as almost all centerfire weapons are lock into battery with each successive shot. If they don't lock into battery they won't fire.

I'm hung up on "one shot at a time ranges". I didn't know such a thing existed. But I think what he means is the slide is locking back with every shot. Not locking into battery. Locking back. His question is, since that will happen to excess at one shot at a time ranges, will that harm the gun?

I do not understand the nature of the question.

One shot at a time ranges;is that in reference to a "no rapid fire" rule , or does the range officer mandate that there only be one bullet in the magazine per shot fired?

In the case of the former the only thing bad that can happen is you lose patience with your range master. If the latter is mandated id find another range, as loading magazines aren't fun when you CAN rapid fire much less once per shot!

Not damaging for your weapon, but STUPID if you are practicing defensive shooting. If I went to a Navy range like that I would do everything in my considerable power to shut it down that very same day.

My interpretation is that you can only shoot one round at a time, meaning only one round can go in the mag. I've never seen a range that does this but it sure sounds like a hardcore FUDD range at it's worst. I'd avoid it at all cost and gladly travel 50+ miles if I had to, just so I could shoot my guns like they're suppose to be shot.

The only range I can see being like that is for hunters to test custom loads at, otherwise it's worthless for everyone else.

Would you be allowed to put a dummy round or snap cap in the magazine below the live round? This would allow the pistol to function normally and not more than one round could be fired.

Yes sorry. Its a free range that I've been going to. All the ranges around my University cost about 50.00 for half a year. I'm only going to be here for 2 more months so I go to the free one. They only allow one round in your mag at a time. They don't have any one supervising but I've seen people get busted with 500.00 fines. Not something I'm willing to risk. So yea I'm new into the gun lingo. What I meant is that after each shot since there is only one round in the mag it locks open after the shot. Seems like this would be bad.

Save your money and go to an honest gun range. What you just described sounds like Sara Brady's idea of paradise.

Paying for range time is one thing, and even buying their ammo may make sense on some level. But how does shooting a semi-auto with one bullet in the mag do any good? Ive never heard of a policy like that until this thread, and its so retrograde its probably law in California.

This is the Dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Whoever runs the place must has some sort of anti-gun problem. And fining someone $500 dollars GET REAL. Gnarly, do yourself a favor & find someplace else to go. I also saw in another thread you have put 700 rounds through your Shield, if you had to do it that way... My Goodness you poor soul. From now on if it were me I wouldn't give them the pleasure of my empty brass. IMO the place should do all gun lovers a favor and close for good. And if they fine folks that kind of cash, it ain't Free Brother.

All I can say is that unless you sign a contract with them stating that you will not fire more than one round per mag change they will have one hell of a hard time defending their position and collecting a $500 fine from me.

All of the ranges I shoot at "Encourage" double/triple taps. It's just their secretive way of selling you more ammo. Although, they can't pull this one on me as I reload most all of my own.

Also, I don't go to ranges that won't let me police my own brass. It's way to expensive to just let sit on the range floor for someone to sweep up and resell what I have purchased.

Read some forums on the range. Apparently a bunch of rich snobby people moved in next to this 100 yr old range and started to complain. Then they had to enforce the new rule. Also, no it's not in California... it's in Michigan. Weird hey? I'm going to call the DNR office and see for sure if they mean one round in mag at a time or no double tap/ fast shooting.

Anyone got an NFA full auto weapon this guy can borrow? The richie rich folks should be taught a lesson in common sense, and a full auto mag dump on the firing line ought to send the right message.
