Started watching the Australian
TV series "Jack Irish," which is
very funny and stars Guy Pearce.

In first episode Jack's offered an
onion sandwich--- sliced onion on
rye bread with mustard. I like
onions but usually have meat and
cheese with them.

Just might try onion sandwich with
just Arnold's seeded rye, Gray
Poupon and a Vidalia type onion.

One sandwich idea that doesn't
appeal to me is what I think of as
a British treat---cucumber sandwich.
Not sure any condiments are added,
just cucumbers on white bread.

Anyone else have suggestions for
what might be considered "offbeat"
sandwiches?

As long as it's a Vidallia

Get plenty of Vidalias in Georgia
but I also find Walla Wallas and
Bermudas just as good.

Vt. Shooter, as to your friend
eating an onion like an apple,
I remember "They Died With
Their Boots On" in which
George Custer and his bride-to-
be shared a love of eating
raw onions like apples.

Love Onions, eat them any way I can get them.
Did misfire at a Taco Stand down in S San Antonio.
You would think a guy knows 10 Spanish words and 20 Latin words would know what a Lingua Taco is.

I have a friend who says he likes his grilled cheese sandwiches with a thick slice of onion, the way his Mom used to make them...No, I haven't tried it that way...:o...Ben

I am not a vegetarian..................

I like a little cheese and mustard mixed in, at least
and I toss it in a hot pan with some butter, for 90 secons on each side.

I like onions, especially red. Tastes vary widely; eat what you enjoy. To me, an onion sandwich sounds foul, about on the same level as a cold Spam sandwich with Miracle Whip...

My cousin and her husband Joe were our guests once, when Joe took two Ribeyes that my husband just grilled on the BBQ, and used them like sandwich bread, and layered a big slab of my eggplant parmesan between them.

I like peanut butter and tomato sandwiches. Some people think I am crazy. I did try onions and ice cream, but only once. Raw onions do not agree with me.

Stay warm and have a blessed day,

Leon

Peanut butter, bologna, sliced tomato and mayo ..... My dad loved them. When I was a younger teen I expressed my revulsion to one he was fixing. He said ... If you have never tried one you cannot say they are disgusting. Here .. take a bite. I did and ...... Huh ! ..... That is actually not bad at all :) ..... They have been on my menu ever since.

I have eaten Vidalia onions like apples before. My onion sandwiches had mayo on wheat bread. My fav as a kid was soy-sauce sandwiches, a slice of white bread soaked with soy sauce, primarily to make my mom and sisters gag. It was worth it.

Sour dough bread. Layer on cottage cheese - non fat free - sliced tomato, bratwurst, REAL MAYO, horseradish mustard, and pop into microwave for about 15 seconds. Top off with green olives with pimentos. Woof.

big fan of peanut butter & bologna sandwiches.. family lore said grandfather liked onion mustard on rye.. growing up neighbor kids ate marshmallow fluff sandwiches.. in the movie Harvey.. they mentioned egg & onion. love the movie.. only liked the sandwich. eat whatcha like. .

Man, a big slice of Vidalia on a bun with mayo and salt is hard to beat. The first time my mother said she was eating an onion sandwich I thought she was nuts. Years later I tried one and learned just how right she was.

There was a bar on the square of Monroe, Wisconsin about 40 years ago that served a limburger cheese sandwich on thick-cut warm dark rye bread. You could get a generous slice of red onion on it if desired.

Back then Augsburger Beer was brewed in Monroe and available on-tap at this bar (sorry can't remember the name of the bar - too many Augsburger drafts apparently).

I have very fond memories of sitting in that bar with friends watching college football games on a Saturday afternoon eating locally made limburger cheese on hearty rye bread with red onion and washing them down with "Augie."

A friends family loved sweet onion sandwiches with Ketchup. They aren't bad but I generally add meat and use bbq sauce.

A friend once said he knew it was time to go grocery shopping, because last night he ate a potato chip sandwich. Ah the single life...

I like my onion sandwich with cheese.

Wife loves cucumber sandwiches.

Peanut butter and dill pickles is one of my favorites. Peanut butter and lettuce is good as the lettuce scours the peanut butter off of the roof of the mouth.
