What a wonderful Christmas present to learn that at least one person has been punished for such behavior.

AMEN!!!

Aloha,

Here in Hawaii, it's NO CARRY at all. NO open carry. NO concealed carry.

I say, just be happy you Can Carry any way you like.

ah, yes. too soon young, too late old.lol. I have a uncle mikes holster that makes it very difficult to grab. I am very careful, but it is always on my mind. I think wyoming has it right. ither way, just need to be approved for ccw. no screwing around. also, we can carry it anywhere in our veihacle, in any condition(loaded, unloaded, one in the chamber) and it is not considered concealed. is it like that where you live?
In Florida, you need a CC in order to legally car a handgun ready for use in your vehicle.

Somewhat correct about Florida vehicle carry. Anyone can have a loaded firearm ready for use if in a holster, box, gun rug, center console, etc. The container does not have to be locked. For example, I have a gun ready to go in my center console armrest storage and I do not need a permit to do so.

Here in Northern Nevada we have both open and concealed carry. I excercise both. The only people disturbed by open carry that I have witnessed are the %$#@@^& tourists. Most of which are from the state to our left. Nuff said?

So many people still have this idea that they suddenly are going to be confronted with a team of highly trained former Spetznaz commandos, and it's better to keep your gun (with at least 18 rounds in the clip) hidden until the most opportune moment to fight back. Why, if you're carrying openly, they'll see you for sure, and take you out with the first shot... Well, folks, that ain't gonna happen. Now, you might get confronted by a team of ATF agents, but they know who you are already....

No, if you are ever caught in any type of criminal act at all, it's going to be by someone with his pants three sizes too big, hanging down to his knees, dew rag on his head, holding his "nine" sideways, trying to mug you to pay for his crack habit. Someone who is only barely capable of making his gun function at all, much less hit what he's "aiming" at. This person sees you with a pistol on your hip, he's gonna say "S__T!" and immediately vacate the premises in search of a less formidable mark.

actually all I have to do is get a letter from the sheriff that says it's o.k. My cousin is the local sheriff, so that is not going to be too difficult. however, around here, it takes about six months to get it. I am not going to wait until then.

I would re-think that, clear that up and get it. You might want it later on down the road and it may not be as easy has it would be now.

OK, first, this does not apply to all taht do OC so please dont take offense, just an observation of mine.
I have lived in several states over the years that will allow open carry and about 90% of people that do open carry appear to be open carrying their ego more than the weapon. It always looks to me to be screaming "look at me, I'm a big boy now!"
Again JMHO.
To me open carry just puts YOU on top of Johnny Cruds who to shoot first list, and after he does that I will have time to draw from concealment and end his wicked ways.

I do take offense at your insulting characterization of people who open carry and also at your filthy language in your quote, which is banned by the posting policies of this forum.

Find evidence where this has been happening.
You present yourself as a more difficult target, the bad guys look around and everyone they see looks to be an easier target.
Not sure where you see these people who are crying out for attention... but thats like saying that all people with nickel plated guns are crying out "LOOK AT ME!!".
For look at me, it would more than likely be a full on Tacticool thigh strapped drop holster... put it right out there where it wont blend into anything... and look like Mr MallNinja.

well, It has been a little while since I first started open carrying now, and I have formed my opinion. I am going to obtain a ccw, but I prefer open carry. most people dont even notice that I carry, and the ones that do are the smarter ones and seem to be a little more at ease, like there glad someone is there in case a desperate man walks in and proves he needs a prison sentence. I have gotten a few dirty looks, mostly from guys that think I am wearing it to "be cool", like the guy a couple posts up. I am not a more likely target, in fact just the opposite. a criminal usually is desperate, or dumb, and will take the path of least resistence.

I think it tells people, "think what you want, but the fact is I am carrying a gun and that means I am probably capable of using it." I feel safer, and so do those around me. even ran into a cop at the store, and he just nodded at me.

nothing against those that prefer cc, to each his own I guess. was a good little conversation though. I am new here, but I like it and will be around for a while. thanks fella's (and lady's,lol)

Open carry VS.concealed carry will always be a debate. I respect those who choose to OC but prefer concealed carry for myself. That's a personal decision. Do I have facts and figures to back up my chosen method as being superior? No. AFAIK there is no published data one way or the other as far as which method is better. It's a personal choice that everyone needs to evaluate on their own and decide which suits them better ( for those in states like mine where OC is legal ).

I am glad I live in a free state. Where with my CCW I can open carry, but if my gun is covered not a problem. Or I can CCW and if my gun shows no problem. Or I can have a fully loaded ready to go firearm in my car anywhere I chose to have it. And if a LEO stops me in my truck, I only have to say that I am carrying if asked.

david, living in Arizona 3 miles from New Mexico another free state.

Since Mr. G.W. Bush signed the Peace Officers Safety Act of 2004 all of us old retired coppers can carry concealed anywhere in the country, so I don't have these worries. Colorado is an open carry state (typical restrictions re: schools, courthouses, bars, etc), and I have carried openly on occasion, usually in the summertime when it is hot. This has frequently caused unnecessary concern for others, so I do not carry openly any time I am likely to be around people, going into business establishments, etc.

In short, I consider carrying concealed to be more courteous toward other folks. Why cause undue alarm, even if only for unreasonbly fearful people?

On very hot days now I use a fanny pack with velcro pull, very quick access if needed. And it also holds my checkbook, flashlight, cell phone, eyeglass case, etc, etc, etc. Sort of like a purse for guys!

By the way, as a holster maker I find that I'm a lot like plumbers (leaky pipes in their own homes) and mechanics (their wives' cars always need work). All of my best products get bought, so I never seem to have the holster I want for myself! I'll have to correct that.

I prefer open carry, just because of my size and shape. Also, open carry lets me carry what I want without worrying about the right clothes. I do on occasion carry concealed, but not nearly as often. I have been asked about my gun, and why am I carrying it, gives me a chance to do some on the spot Constitutional Educating. Some people are a bit intimidated, but most don't even notice. I feel a right not exercised regularly, is a right that is in danger of being lost, and I am unwilling to give up any of my rights.

Dave

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."
