Opinions on Model 617

The full underlug is a waste of added weight, the ten shot cylinder I never needed but, do appreciate the stainless steel in handguns. I cut the underlug off my 617 to reduce weight. All this from someone who is an outdoorsman at heart, of past(old now) IIRC bullseye competition only shoots 5 shots a string?

I bought a no-dash 617 with a 6" barrel back when they first came out. It has been a lot of fun over the years so I sought out a 4" counterpart about five years ago. My, have they ever appreciated in value! I wound up with a nice 4" no-dash 617 for around $500 but that probably sounds like a deal today.

The 6" is nice but the 4" seems to feel better in the hand and if I had to sell one, it would be the 6" gun.

By the way, revolvers didn't acquire the nickname "six-shooter" because they held 10 rounds.

Hi folks,
I'm looking to get into another revolver in 22lr and am tempted by these 10 shot 617's.
Anything specific to the model to look out for ?
Think I'll look for a 6".
Shooting paper.
Wondering if I should stick to the model 17 with the 6 shot cylinder for reasons other than nostalgia.
I'm regularly shooting a Model 14 and 15 bullseye style.
Opinions welcome.
Thanks

I OWN BOTH VERSIONS OF THE M617......

THE 10 SHOOTERS ARE LOTS OF FUN, BUT THEY ACCUMULATE MUCH MORE DEBRIS AROUND THE FACE OF THE CLOSELY SPACED CHAMBERS, AND UNDER THE STAR EXTRACTOR. THE 6 SHOTS ARE MUCH CLEANER SHOOTERS, AND ARE JUST AS MUCH FUN......

YOUR CHOICE OF SHOOTING ACTIVITIES SHOULD INFLUENCE YOUR CHOICE AS WELL. IF YOU ARE EXCLUSIVELY A BULLSEYE SHOOTER, A 6" 6 SHOT MAY BE JUST WHAT YOU NEED......

HOWEVER, GIVEN THE FACT THAT YOU ALREADY OWN A M14 AND M15 THAT YOU SHOOT BULLSEYE WITH---YOU MAY WANT TO BREAK OUT OF THAT BOX BIG TIME, WITH A 10 SHOT, ACCOMPANIED BY THE FULL COMPLEMENT OF SPEED LOADERS AND LOADING BLOCKS, THAT ARE COMMONLY USED BY STEEL CHALLENGE SHOOTERS. THE DS-10 CLASSICS APPEAR TO BE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED.........
