Opinions Please: Grips on Blued Guns

That’s a good group pic you put up! I was reading down this thread and was wondering what my preference of a grip adapter with stags would be and was thinking maybe bronze. But you gave us a shot of everything and I think I may prefer black instead. All of yours look great BTW.

I was not able to capture more images today, (something about St. Padrick’s Day), but here are some of my choices.

First is a pair of Model 1950, 45 ACP, Target revolvers with the factory Magnas.

Next is one of the same revolvers with curly maple Magnas.

And, my favorite, smooth elk.

I generally like dark wood on blued guns, but have a couple examples with lighter colored maple that work (for me) on the guns I have them on. I think spalted maple can work with blued or SS. A couple pics below.

Nice!!

Holly or White laminated wood, but only if they fit your hands.

I like these a lot, of course I would prefer Ivory, and barring Ivory, Antler with a lot less or no bark. I would also like the Smith and Wesson medallions, preferably gold.. I have a set of early Walnut service grips with the gold medallions on my triple lock, they are gorgeous.

Those who are reminding us about fit? number one they have to fit the gun, nothing anymore dissapointt than il fitting grips, number two, they absolutely have to fit your hand.. the prewar grips are much smaller, which I prefer honestly.. but I do like the Ropers, and I think they would be gorgeous in the Holly.

I have noticed a lot of faux stag that are terrible quality. I think they are 3d printed, same with faux Ivory. Have been looking for 39 grips of a faux ivory that is hard enough to hold detail of relief carving. Most of this stuff is like trying to whittle a gumdrop. Altamont uses a hard material for their faux line.
* if contrast is your goal I see many good deals on flo-green!

M27 Grips

I have a set of solid black Ebony smooth Culina grips on my 27. Dunno how hard it is to get good ebony though. I love the Giraffe grips on my Ruger SS Hunter. And of course, a pair of Culina Bird's Eye Maple on a 617....

I REALLY do not like 'finger inletted' grips- terrible for holster draw, Combat grips leave me cold as do Magnas or most 3rd party grips.

John's work is impeccable. PM me for some pics if you like.
