More specifically item number 170133...Performance Center 2 5/8" barrel.

I truly love my 4" 57 and it goes with me every time I hunt or scout. It feels great, shoots great and is a comfort in it's Simply Rugged holster. If I'm in the woods, you'll see this gun with me.

That being said, I'd like something a bit more concealable for everyday carry elsewhere when I'm wearing a belt. The .357mag/.38spcl +P loads are appealing to me as well.

I really like the thought of that 8 shot cylinder. Moon clips or perhaps a speedloader if I can find one...

I have a PC 500S&W that has impressed the heck outa me. The fit and finish on the gun is perfect. Trigger is sublime. Accuracy is very good. I'd expect the same from the 627PC (I hope).

I'm not real fond of the grips and would like something different on them......suggestions please (pics would help).

If you've shot one of these, what did you think?

Accuracy?

Feel?

Balance?

Did you have any problem finding good leather (not sure if the cylinder makes this an issue)?

I've really enjoyed my little 442. It's a great pocket carry weapon and would certainly perform wonderfully in close in defensive situations. I'd like to add to the arsenal, though (always an excuse for another nice gun). I'd love something SA/DA for those times when plinking or shooting further out there at the range.

Thanks

I don't think N frame revolvers are really ideal for concealing, but I can see it utilized for carrying.

I personally own a 627 PC 5" and I love it. Its almost everything I look for in a revolver.

I'd say go for it. I'd opt for moonclips though. I personally like speedloaders more, but I only like the Safariland comp ones. Twist-types don't seem like they hold as well and thats 1 extra motion you gotta make. My experience with Safariland is you just gotta pop it and it almost shoots the rounds into the cylinder. UNfortunately, your speedloader options are limited with 8 shots. You're pretty much stuck with speed strips, hokey rubber one, the shiny ones from 5-Star, or the $60 one from Thunder Ranch. I've tried the rubber ones and the 5-Star. Rubber is a total no-go.. the 5-Star ones, while really pretty and are high quality, I feel don't hold the rounds as well and I can imagine them falling out through impact or excessive force when reaching for ammo.

Note on Speedloaders...

I don't carry my 627 snubbie (California), but I like to be as proficient as I can. I have 5-Star speedloaders, and like Gorenut says, are loose. I don't believe they will fall out, but if you go this route, you need to practice using them a lot. There's very little clearance for the rounds to drop in, so if you've not practiced, you will flounder around getting it loaded quickly. You just need to get a routine in repetitive motion, and all will be well.

I enjoy shooting mine. Not really did any accuracy tests but it is accurate enough. I don't like the eagle grips so I switched them out to a set of combat grips. I am in ca as well so I can't carry in the county I live in so I connot speak to that.

I love my 627 V8 for competition. Even if it had a short barrel it would seem pretty bulky to me, and while I have used only moon clips on the firing line, the longer 357 cases do tend to wiggle about more and the reload goes slower than you might think.

On the other hand, the 627 is a magnificent accurate powerful handful of smack-face to ruin the day of even the ugliest perp.

Never tried any 8 shot speed loaders.

I have a 5" 627PC and a 4" 627Pro. As much as I like the 627PC, I also like the Pro and if you already like a 4" 57, you might want to consider a 4" .357. It uses the same moon clips and has the nice removable front sight and the trigger is nearly as good as my PC out of the box. Something to consider.

They are a bit big and heavy for concealed carry, but would probably work ok with a pancake holster or a shoulder holster. They are pretty fun to shoot and accurate for a short barrel, short range gun. The grips are a too small, but seem to handle recoil ok. I changed to combat grips though, and I am still looking for a good grip. I tried wood Hogues and absolutely did not like them on this gun. I have used Hogue grips for years, but somehow it didn't work with this gun.

Nightowl,

I know what you mean about the Hogues on some guns. My 57 is almost "overly gripped" with the wood Hogue style that I went with. My hands are fairly large and they fit very well and recoil is a nonissue regardless of the loads I've tried with this gun. They are too big for one of my shooting buddies, but I'm well served by them.

I think, If I get one of these guns, that I'll be going with a style that offers a full grip but isn't overly bulky, like I did on my 57.

I have both the PC 627 8-shot and a 686 plus 7-shot snubbies. Both are fantastic revolvers. If I were you I would consider the 686 plus. A lot cheaper (even including an action job), only one less round, more speed loader choices, and a lot easier to carry. FWIW

I agree with the above post that the 686 is easier to carry, and you can get it in a 7 shot. However, I like the 8 shot, and actually I carry both at different times, but I prefer the 627. With a good holster it is really not that bad. It is an excellent revolver.:D

Best revolver I've owned in 40+ years of owning, shooting, and carrying them on and off duty. I absolutely LOVE this wheelgun!

Concealed carry? No problem! I carry mine regularly in its Lobo Gun Leather "Enhanced pancake" belt holster.

Regarding speedloaders, Gorenut's "imaginings" don't stack up to reality. I've used HKS speedloaders for decades, have 5 Star speedloaders for my 627, have carried them, qualified with them, etc and not once, not ever, did a single round ever "fall out" of one. It just doesn't happen.

I love my 627.

I have a Lobo IWB I use with it. I shoot a lot of IDPA matches and the local club matches are very equipment lax (plus I'm usually helping run the matches) I have run this gun with the slow moon clips and bested the CDP guys. When I get the 5 star speedloaders I will give the SSP guys a run too. I think it is more pleasant to fire with hot loads than the 686.

I put CT laser grips on mine recently. It is my favorite 357.

Guys....you have made this way too tempting.

There are two guns that I really want to go after right now. This one and a Les Baer Premier II. (I don't have many bottomfeeders but I do love 'em in .45acp).

Budget will allow the 627PC first, so that's where I'll aim.

Thanks for your insight and the awesome pics.

I really like the looks of that Lobo holster. It appears to be just what I was looking for.

Well, you can't go wrong with either of those choices. Good luck with your goals. ;)

okay....looks like I may have found the one on I want in a shop that I use.

Agree 100%, I own both... (627 PC with "the plug" and factory fluted cylinder and 686-5 Plus 7 shooter)

But the daily carry nod goes to...

PLEASE forgive the pic quality compared to others here...I can shoot the guns but apparently I don't know how to shoot guns if you get my drift. :)

GET THE 627 AS FAST AS YOU CAN GRAB ONE!!!!!!!

Dead nutts reliable and accurate as any 4" I've ever owned. Wonder how I ever got along without that 8th hole in the cylinder. Easy to pack with the right leather (mine is a Galco Speed Scabbard OWB) and a proper belt. Mine currently wears an N frame Xpress rear and will be changed to a gold bead in the near future. This one is going to be with me for a looooong time I think. Just a super, super defensive revolver, and if you think about it, kind of a "game changer" in that you have the capacity of a 1911 in a much more powerful and versatile cartridge. What's not to like?

Awesome. I'm going to do it.

It will be my 3rd N-frame. I love these guns.

I think this gun will get a lot of carry time. Sure it's a large carry choice, but I'll get a nice holster and belt.

It'll be a way to ad another RemMag to the fold, too. I've shot a ton of .41, .44 and 7mm RemMags over the years but for some reason I've never owned a .357.

It'll be interesting to see how the magnum loads handle in it vs the +P loads in my J-frame Airweight.
