Good afternoon. I have the opportunity to pick up a excellent condition model 30-1. Believe it's a 2 in barrel. Can anyone help me with what a fair price to pay would be? Thanks!

Picked up a really nice three inch a couple of years ago for $600. Not a bargain but I wanted it and had the money.

I'm seeing a barely visible turn line and little or no high-edge/muzzle wear.
Assuming the other side looks just as good, that would be a very high condition example.
If you paid under $600 you did just fine.
If you paid $500-ish you did very well!\
JMO.

I picked up a very nice early 3" with the flat latch for between 5 and 6 hundred. It was packaged with a 34-1 so hard to say what the exact price was.

I think that was a good price. I recently bought a nickel 4" in Mint shape and paid $700 for it, I didn't have one, next one would have to be cheaper.

Welcome to the forum.

100% original finish with grips serial number stamped that matches gun number would be $600, more with box, paperwork and tools.

I agree with Hondo44 that this is a $600 pistol. But then add $100 for the original box an additional $50 for the outstanding condition. The 30-1 J frame was introduced in 1961 and the box is a pre-Bangor Punta who bought S&W in 1965. If you would post the serial number, someone could narrow that time down.

Beautiful revolver! I wish I'd seen it first!

I was going to say 5ish. But 6ish would be OK. I paid 5 even for a very nice 31-1 a few years ago with all the trimmings. That was a few years ago and for some reason everybody wants a 32 these days. I seriously doubt S&W will ever make another 32 which is OK with me. Easy to load. Starline makes the brass occasionally.

Congratulation on a very nice revolver.

I think these days $500 for a nice condition snub m30-1 with box is more than fair. You did good. Hope you enjoy shooting it. The 32s are a ton of fun to shoot. Hope you reload so you can shoot more.

The previous posters have pretty well summed things up and I would agree with the consensus that in today's market, getting a 30-1 in that condition, along with its tools and box for $500 was a very good deal.

My attitude is that this is a very nice J frame to have for fun at the range, for basic home protection, and as a collectible. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

View attachment 683355I had to act quickly on it so I went ahead and got it. I will see if I can put up a picture.

Last year I bought a police trade-in pre-30. 2" barrel, round butt from the largest gun stores in Columbus. The revolver would not revolve, and the finish was all but gone, (no pitting just no blue left.). The gun store just wanted it gone. I paid 100 bucks, plus another 50 for my gunsmith to fix the revolving problem. It was an easy fix. The little .32 shoots like a champ. I've a few high buck Smith's, but I like this little J Frame most of all.

My wife had a 30-1 2" and absolutely loved it! :D
It didn't hurt her arthritic hands and shot extremely well.
Here it is along with 3 & 4" Models 31 and a 16-4.
