Have any of you kind folks had your slide cut to optics ready? If you have who did the work and what optic did you use?
I had my Shield 1.0 slide milled for a Red Dot Sight (RDS) five years ago. The folks who did it now only do Glocks, so I can’t be of any help to you for a recommendation. I know there are a lot of folks out there who do it with Cerakoting, but I’m not sure of their turn around time or cost. Mine was four weeks and about $175 including texturing and Cerakoting the frame.
With the other upgrades I installed, including Maguts +2 extensions, this 1.0 is a direct competitor to the Shield Plus, IMO.
My optic is the Shield (manufacturer) RMSc. It does not hang over the sides of the slide. With the milling it sits low enough in the slide for the standard factory iron sights to cowitness through the window. I like this set up as it is the same as my other two full-size RDS M&P’s.
My RDS guns are set up for personal defense. I want to have as large a window as I can, sitting as close to the bore as I can, and with cowitnessed front and rear sites. There are a number of other threads on this type of set up, and for me it is the only way to go. Every other configuration involves compromises that I feel are unnecessary. This is the most expensive way to go, I understand, but since this is a personal defense gun, I am willing to spend the money to get the RDS concept at its highest functionality.
