Orange Thing with 22A

OK. I am just going to go for it: What the heck is that little orange plastic thing that comes with all 22A pistols?

I have looked through the paper manual and the downloaded manual which I rely on for the best photos and have seen no reference to it. It seems to have no purpose.

I believe you are referring to the chamber flag (not sure if that is its true name)? The pointy end goes into the chamber and shows there cannot be anything else in it.

OK. That makes sense based on its shape an d the photo does show it well. But I cannot insert it. It looks like it can only be inserted after field stripping the gun. When, how and why is it to be used?
