Ever since I sold my Kimber with
Crimson laser, I know I had to replace
It. What is it with selling our guns, that
We wish we didn't ? I sold over 8 guns
And wish I had them all back. Ever one
But the Taurus, the one that blow up.
So yesterday I ordered the SW 1911 E
With crimson laser. $1000 ? About?
Guys, tell me some good things about
It. The main thing I like about the SW
Is no FTF- or FTE. My Kimber had lots
Of problems.

I, like you sold my previous 1911 awhile back to fund a new skeet gun. I just ordered a PC 1911 170343 yesterday and can't wait to get it in. I had the same feeling in regards to the smith vs kimber vs sig debate, although all seem to be very reliable, I just wanted a name and warranty I could trust.

Without me looking-you are talking about the SW performance center ? If so--NICE !!!

Im going to go look at that one. When they build that PC, is it a E -they start with or a diff. gun ?
Can I ask, what the price was on the PC gun ?

PM Sent. Thats the one! I am unaware of which gun they start with. They are according to the cs at smith hand lapped frame and slide and also on the barrel. The specs state 3.5-4 lb trigger. I wanted to like the Kimber so bad because it was in stock but I have always wanted a performance center gun so I took the plunge.

My wife bought me this "E" series SW1911 and it is a great 1911, with a lot of nice touches you wouldn't normally see in a production pistol.

the e series is a sexy machine. I had the same one pictured above. Wish i had it back. oh well, maybe one day ill find a black E series.

Excellent choice! I have two Smith 1911's and both have been flawless. I don't think you can get a better 1911 for the $$ than a S&W. I like the new PC 1911's but will have to settle for my current versions.

As a side note the PPK/S in the pics is an early S&W Walther that is a recall gun...it is also a great performer that I trust as a carry gun. I defend the S&W Walthers at every opportunity.;)

omg...the E series is light years ahead of kimbers...ive shot every variation if kimber and NONE compare to E series..im selling all my kimbers and replacing them with E and PRO series....

I have the same 1911 that you ordered S&W 357. I have put 1000 flawless rounds through it so far and the gun is very accurate. You will be very happy with your new toy. Best of luck and hope it works out.

I always wanted a Kimber. I was not
Happy with it, just always had problems.
I don't shoot a lot with 1911, I'm a revolver
Guy. I don't want to have FTE, I hate when
That happens.
Thanks for the info.

FYI the E series is S&W's "Economy" 1911 series, which means they cost less than the Performance Center models and IMO are actually superior.

First, the slide to frame fit is a "service" fit, so it should prove to be much more reliable than a hand lapped fit without much, if any, impact on accuracy.

Second, I've been told the E Series is a Series 70 1911, so no firing pin block to muck up tuning the trigger and the older Series 70's are incredibly easy to totally strip down.

Third, while I haven't looked recently I believe that none of the E series pistols offer an Ambi Safety, something that I personally avoid on a 1911. The problem with the Ambi safeties is that they are somewhat prone to breaking and most are an incredible PITA to remove.

Personally, I I were looking for a S&W made 1911 the E series line is the only place I would look. Simple truth is that with iron sights I at least 5 years past the age where I can see the sights well enough to benefit from the tiny improvement in accuracy that a hand fitted slide might produce. In addition, having owned series 70 1911's I've come to want nothing to do with a series 80 pistol.

Congrats, there was one at my local range a couple of weeks ago and I returned the next morning to buy it and it was gone... :(
