I am getting ready to order some 223 ammo online, and I see that there a variety of "extra" options like heavy duty packaging. I want to order a case at the cheapest price possible, so I don't want to add more options than I need to. Just wondering if the basic shipping is sufficient, or if heavy duty packaging is necessary? Thanks

Ammo on line

Don't know what sites you are going to but I order ammo in 1,000 round bricks all the time and have never seen that option. Never had any issues with standard delivery and packaging. Sounds like your site is trying to run the price up on you

I've mail ordered lots of ammo and never paid extra for packaging.

But then I've never ordered a case lot either.

Perhaps call and ask the supplier if it's really necessary?

The only problem I can see is if the packaging breaks open and spills the rounds.

Shipping ammo isn't like ordering fine china or Waterford wine glasses.

Thanks for the advice. The store is called The Armory. Shipping is around $10 but it's $3 extra for discrete packaging and $4 extra for heavy duty packaging.

Are you getting the Wolf Gold 55gr?

If so they are putting it in an ammo can so I wouldn't worry, maybe go for discrete package if you don't want people to know you just stocked up.

Good price, $17.54 to ship to me is still reasonable.

I'm getting the Wolf WPA Polyperformance 500 round case. I think it just comes in the regular box. $119.98 shipped with none of the extra options.

The vendors, I see, are starting to add ridiculous things like this to just run up price. If package gets damaged it would be their problem and you would not accept it. Add adult signature is another. If it gets left on your front porch and taken, your credit card company will take care of that real quick.

Just go with standard.

I ordered 5 cases of 223 and it came fine. I told them on phone if it was damaged it would not be accepted. They had taped together three cases, and taped together the other two, for two seperate packages.

Shot it all up already too!

I was about to order this tonight, and I noticed a new shipping option: free shipping which you have to check as "Shipping 9". Does anyone know what this means? There's no way that I can tell to e-mail the Armory store about this?

possibly at checkout, it will ask for a "coupon code" or similar which you would type in "shipping 9" and it would do the free shipping. I never sued to armory, so am not sure how they work, but you can also give them a quick phone call. The way I described is how a lot of them work. You add the code at the checkout.
Best for you as first time would probably be to just do it as a telephone order so they can take care of that, and tell you what to do in future.
