Hello,
I have a 617 no dash that has magna grips. Every other 617 no dash that I've ever seen has combat grips which leads me to believe that the magna grips are not the original grips. However, I also have the original 1 piece box for the gun and under the features section on the box label it makes no mention of combat grips. I have another 617 no dash that does have combat grips that also has the original box. The letters "CS" (combat stocks) appears under the features section of the box label. Does the lack of "CS" on the box label mean the gun was not shipped with combat grips? Appreciate all replies.

Anything is possible, but every original 617 as you describe it has Combat stocks. Did you purchase it as a new gun?

I didn't purchase the gun new. Also, CS can stand for carbon steel, stainless cylinder, or combat stocks depending on the time period of the gun. I believe that it stood for combat stocks during the time period the 617 no dash was manufactured. This is according to the S&W standards catalogue. Thanks for the replies.
