I was definitely a real gun, back in 1855 when Volcanic Repeating Arms was founded.

The Volcanic Repeating Arms Company was an American company formed in 1855 by partners Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson to develop Walter Hunt's Rocket Ball ammunition and lever action mechanism. Volcanic made an improved version of the Rocket Ball ammunition, and a carbine and pistol version of the lever action gun to fire it. While the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company was short-lived, its descendants, Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Smith & Wesson became major firearms manufacturers...

I had a real Volcanic pistol briefly many years ago. My guess is that it is a reproduction print but no way to tell. There are document examiners who can do it. I do have an authentic Colt printed instruction cloth that came packed with new C&B Colts.

No, I never had one but saw one a long time ago gun show. But the Volcanic pistol was ahead of it's time and the ammo was step in the right direction. All the Winchester rifles began with the Volcanic. Cartridge development sure improved a lot since then. I took my first buck with a 30-30 Win. back in 1953. Just an old guys thoughts on a remembrance time.

The paper condition looks far to nice to have spent 175 years in that frame. With open glass at the edges, unless it has been climate controlled, it isn't showing enough wear, or yellowing.
