After lurking here for the better part of a month, I thought I should join this forum.

I am much smitten with the two Smith and Wessons that I bought recently. One is a 27-2 and the other is a 66-2. Both have 6" barrels.

Here is a picture of the 27-2:

Now after shooting the 27-2 with full power magnum loads, one of the grips broke. A piece of wood about three quarters of an inch long broke off the right stock.

I was heartbroken. I carefully glued the piece back with proper wood glue, but now there is a very slight line that shows that a repair was made. I know that Eagle Grips makes some beautiful replacement grips, but is there a place I find original grips?

Finally, I love those classic blue S&W boxes? Does anyone know where I could find an original box? Does anyone make replica boxes?

Thank you

Mr. Squinty.

Welcome to the Forum. You have a couple of the most desirable S&W's. Grips and boxes are frequently advertised for sale in the "Accessories For Sale" section, and you could post a "Wanted" ad in the Want to buy section.

List the dash number along with the model number and members will know just which grips (stocks) you are looking for.

There are usually lots of original grips on e-bay and gunbroker. Some are priced way way high though. I'd expect to pay $45 up for a pair in good condition. Both sites also have S&W boxes.

Thank you Mr. Richard.

The funny thing is that both guns were offered for sale at our range. The notice was pinned to the bulletin board at the clubhouse and the guns were offered for sale for several months.

I did everything to resist, but the siren song of the Smith & Wesson cried out to me and I am lost now forever.

Welcome aboard.

The information posted above is very good on where to get the items that you need. Should be easy to find.
I think that I have only noticed a couple posts of grips breaking under use. I was wondering if these were cracked or damaged before they broke that you know of.
I have noticed grips that were cracked while being installed.
Just curious as I still cannot figure out why the grips would break while being fired.

Check the roll pin

You might want to check the roll pin in the bottom of the grip frame. Sometimes these get replaced/lost when other grips are installed.

I recently bought a 27-2 and the roll pin had been replaced with a piece of clothes hanger and the grips did not fit snug. I replaced the roll pin before firing just to make sure there would be no stock damage.

Mr. Squinty.

I would keep them and repair them, keep them with original gun and enjoy them. All things must be concidered with the ORIGINAL item with all its faults and compliments, it is what it is.
