On tonight, Feb 26th. This is where all the actors pat themselves on the back for the great job they did in whatever film they were in. All the talk on the news this morning is that the red carpet may not be the correct shade of red. Apparently there is a red that compliments all the various designer dresses the actresses wear. And, on that topic, it's all the talk about which designers the actresses are wearing.

Exciting stuff.....NOT. The last movie I saw was the Star Wars flick and I thought it was just OK. Other than that, I don't remember any movies that I actually attended last year. I'll be watching whatever I can find on the other channels.
 
There used to be only five mostly forgettable movies nominated for best picture, now there's nine. That way they can put "nominated for best picture" next to more rotten film's name trying to generate more sales (theaters, video rental) of them later. Films usually win based on the social statements made. An actor can be a shoe in if he/she plays a character considered a victim by current political standards.
We will watch it, though. It'll be fun watching these people helplessly whine about, well, you know. I take great joy seeing self important hacks taken down a few notches by the "little people" they look down their noses to.

I generally am not interested but they filmed several scenes for Hidden Figures at my place of work and I was personally involved with assisting them. I've seen the movie and thought it was very well done and hope to see them win some awards! I will likely watch the awards for the first time ever.
 
My opinion on celebrities and their vapid self absorption that went around the internet lately:

Dear Hollywood celebrities,

It’s time to wake up now. Get this! The only reason you exist is for my entertainment. Some of you are beautiful. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you are so convincing that you scare the **** out of me. And others are so funny you can make me laugh uncontrollably.

But you all have one thing in common. You only exist and have a place in my world to entertain me. That’s it. Nothing else!

You make your living pretending to be someone else. You play dress-up like a 5-year-old.

Your world is a make believe world. It is not real. It doesn’t exist. You live for the camera while the rest of us live in the real world.

Your entire existence depends on my patronage. I crank the organ grinder, and you dance.

Therefore, I don’t care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your opinion means nothing to me. Just because you had a lead role in a movie about prostitution doesn’t mean you know what it’s like to be a prostitute. Your view matters far less to me than that of a someone living in Timbuktu.

Believe me or not, the hard truth is that you aren’t real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer, and you cease to exist. Once I am done with you, I go back to the real world until I want you to entertain me again.

I don’t care that you think BP executives deserve the death penalty. I don’t care what you think about the environment. I don’t care if you believe fracking is bad. I don’t care if you call for more gun control. I don’t care if you believe in catastrophic human-induced global warming.

Get back into your bubble. I’ll let you know when I’m in the mood for something pretty or scary or funny.

Make me laugh. Make me cry. Even scare me. But realize this, the only words of yours that matter is scripted — just like your pathetic little lives.
I may agree with some of you from time to time, but in the final analysis, it doesn’t matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment.

So, shut your pie hole and dance, monkey, DANCE!

I'm passing on viewing the Oscars this year. Number one, I don't particularly give a rat's behind which producer has the most effective press agent, resulting in a win. And second, since the whole proceeding is turning into a stage for various clueless people to advance their agendas regarding discrimination, climate issues, humanitarian concerns, politics, or protecting the South African sand flea, I will find better things to do with my time.

Here we are less likely to know or watch newer movies or TV shows. I am lucky that Wendy is like me in preferring many of the older movies and shows. We are more apt to watch movies like.

The Long Gray Line.
The Spirit of St Louis.
Spencer's Mountain.
Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or Swiss Family Robinson.
We do love some that aren't as old like Secondhand Lions.

The same here for TV favorites include.

The Outer Limits.
The Andy Griffith Show.
Green Acres, along with Petticoat Junction and the Beverly Hillbillies.
The Twilight Zone.

As with movies we do really enjoy some newer shows such as Firefly which is hard to believe that show came out 15 years ago in the fall of 2002.
 
If I could get someone to give me a penny for every narcissist who'll be in attendance at the Oscars I'd have enough to go buy a really nice 686-4.
 
They can't do as well as when Bob Hope was the MC. That said, watching it to us is akin to going to the circus. A bunch of largely self obsessed artists.

As said in a post above: who cares what their political views are? Anyone who is swayed by their gibberish must have other problems.

Hey, it's once a year, take a peek. Usually a lot of laughs on stuff they don't intend to have you laugh at.
 
I saw a commercial for the show that started with something like...

"The world's most prestigious award..."

...or some such self-congratulatory, self-aggrandizing B.S.

As hard as it may be for most of us to comprehend, these Hollyweird types actually seem to believe - and want to persuade the rest of us - that their little ego-stroke-fest is actually important. Like it will actually have any kind of effect on anyone's life - other than theirs.

Pathetic.

I haven't watched their award show in the last 40 years or so, and obviously I will not be watching tonight.
 
K.I.S.S==principle for my reply. Nver have and never will watch. I hear that Hacksaw Ridge is allegedly getting several nods--which is the only movie IMO-worthy of winning. la la land???????? GIMME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George C Scott, a personal favorite, thoughts on the movie oscars...............

Scott refused the Oscar nomination for Patton, just as he had done for his 1962 nomination for The Hustler, but won the award anyway.

In a letter to the Motion Picture Academy, he stated that he did not feel himself to be in competition with other actors. However, regarding this second rejection of the Academy Award, Scott famously said elsewhere, "The whole thing is a ******* meat parade. I don't want any part of it"
 
I haven't watched a movie since Dances With Wolves..

Don't have any idea who those folks are and care less.

If we all boycott that stuff, maybe them twits will get the same message.
