Planning a trip to complete my grand slam this coming spring. Anyone got any insight?
 
There are a bunch of Osceolas!
He got around almost as much as Falling Rock.
Everywhere you go you see a sign saying watch out for that guy.
The Osceola that did surprise me is in White Pine County, Nevada.
Been deer hunting there!
Must have been named by some homesick boys from back East.

No insight...but I'm jealous. I've only killed Easterns and have not had the opportunity to hunt any of the other subspecies. I've seen a good many Merriams while hunting elk in Colorado and would love to hunt them and the Rios and Osceolas some day.

I can give you the name of the nice lady that rented me the cabin in SD and the exact coordinates of the spot where I killed my Black Hills Merriam's.

Do you mean Osceola County ? If so , I can help you out . I live in Seminole County , which is real close . Let me know , if it's somewhere else , I could probably still help out , I was born here .
 
You can try public land here in South Florida but you may find a large number of people hunting near you. If you book a hunt on private land be prepared to shell out a ton of money just for the hunt with no promise of success.

There are so many variables that I almost want to give up. $2500.00 is about the going rate for an outfitter. I've already spent $300.00 or so on permits and licenses. I've been in contact with a guy on another forum that had success in the Tampa, Orlando area. Without a hot tip driving further south doesn't seem to be worth it. Best I can tell Florida is about as tall as North Carolina is wide. I made the trip to western NC for thanksgiving. Long drive, but worth it if there is something good waiting for you.
 
292, the further South you come in Florida the better chance you have of getting a pure Osceola. The further North you go the greater chance of finding a cross between an Eastern and a Osceola. I have taken Easterns, Merriams and Rio Grandes in South Carolina and Kansas. I plan to try for an Osceola on public land here in Florida this year. I will let you know how that goes.

I got my Rio in Gonzales County, Texas. My Merriam's in the Black Hills of SD and my Eastern in my home state of NC. I know there is some crossbreeding but I'm not a purest. Any bird recognized as an Osceola by the NWTF will be okay with me. I'm certainly not opposed to going further south though. All I know right now is that, lord willing, I'm going.

Thanks for the heads up. Turkeys come in all shapes and sizes.
 
Anyone ever heard of Rick Hebel. He has an add in Turkey Country magazine. I called, left a message, no response.
 
Watching this thread. I bow hunt turkeys.
Have many merriams, four easterns, going to Ks in April for Rios. Probably to Fla for Osceola in a couple years.
