Bharada and I were talking about Otis Cleaning Kits. I have one that I have had for almost a year and have yet to use. I take it with me but because I cleaned at home and have years of cleaning kits an pieces I have just never used it.
My particular kit is the Marine Corps M4 5.56x45 cleaning kit with he NSN on it. The pieces are blued steel and it is a fine kit. It also comes with optics cleaning items. Here is a link to the particular kit:
Otis Technology
We noticed (actually he noticed) that the price is over $100 dollars. I looked at a couple of other sights and the prices went as high as $118. I didnt pay near this much, I went to one of the popular online auction/buy now sites. I went to the same dealer I purchased mine from. They are still selling them for $29 free shipping. It is an excellent kit for the maintenance of your Sporting Rifle, and if it is good enough for the boys in the sandbox it is good enough for me. I understand that some shops have overhead and such to deal with but I really thought that this is another case of serious price gouging. I just thought I would post this.

Thanks oneye,
I've been looking for one of these for a few months now and was also seeing them in the $100 range. Where were you seeing them for $30?

because there are certain things that you cannot post on the forum, I have been busted for breaking the rules and really prefer not to get busted again. It is not a problem but if you read the rules you will know what I am talking about and understand. I am not trying to hide anything from anyone, I am just operating within the parameters established my the management! :D
This kit is a newer version of mine, I will be ordering one next week.
Rootbrain, would you like the link?

Grover, I don't have a cleaning kit for my 15/22, just for my 22 handguns. If these would work in a 22 rifle, please send me the link. Thank you.

Thanks for the link Grover. That is a great kit for the price. I have an Otis multi caliber kit that covers pistol, shotgun, and rifle (didn't spend no $100+ for it). Learning to use the Otis patch system the first time is like trying to fold an origami crane. Once I got it down, the Otis patch is good for a few pulls down the bore.

I just wanted to see the auction. That price is real good.

The AR15 is a .22 caliber rifle. It works in the 15-22. I use an Otis kit on both.

The easiest tool for cleaning the bore of a 15-22 is a .22 cal Hoppes Boresnake. Three pulls, and I'm done.

Yeah...I will be getting one, I dont know why other than it is a better one than my older kit. I just figured out that I can use my bigger swabs with my Otis kit and makes a multicaliber out of it. :D
I use my boresnake a lot also, I have them in 22 cal and 30 cal.

We are headed out to do some plinking...if anyone wants the link I will send it to you after while.
Grover

I would like that link as well. I just bought an otis one for twice that amount but it has yet to ship.

fwiw, I've went through a few Otis kits until I realized all I needed was the cable out of the kit. I went to amazon and purchased 6 Otis Micro kits. Now when I clean, I stage all 6 and it speeds up cleaning by just pulling them all through one at a time. (with whatever lube/cleaner I plan on using). I think I purchased each kit for about $12-13 shipped. I put all 6 cables w/ patch already rigged up in a zippered case for a mouse. (also holds the lube) The small kits have a different thread for brushes but I usually use a bore guide if I let my firearm get that dirty.

I started using Otis several years back with my match grade rimfires.

I'm a firm believer. I can't make myself put a rod of any type in a fine match barrel.

My wife got me the big kit for every firearm caliber there was. It was about $130.00 from an outfitter. I wasn't crazy for the cables and the tiny T handle. I took it back. I prefer to keep it simple I guess. May buy a bore snake or two at some point.
