Our New (To Us Anyway) Truck

Good looking truck. I have been having a heck of a time trying to find something I can afford locally, the insurance company gave me a little more than I thought for my Suburban, but there is very little out there right now within that amount and it's the wrong time of year to be looking for a truck with winter coming on.

I have the rental car until Monday and I ended up taking it for a couple days after the insurance quit paying. I have put almost 2,000 miles on it looking at vehicles, everywhere from the Canadian border down to an hour plus south of me. Most were not what was advertised, today's adventure was a 4wd that ran great but was missing the front driveshaft. (???) Yesterday was a truck that has the most rust I have seen on a pick up with that few miles. Rockers, cab corners, floors and box were all shot.

Only one bright spot is the second truck I looked at today, owned by a very nice 75 year old man whose health is forcing him off the road, a 93 Chevy pick up with 107,000 miles with no rust anywhere. Only drawback is a single cab which will be hard for the kid, the wife and I to ride in all the time and its 2wd although snow tires and chains can fix that.

Monday I am going to look at a 99 Yukon and if that doesn't pan out, then it's the 93 Chevy if its still there. Simply because I need a vehicle now and with my impending retirement, my income will go down by 50% and I can't afford a monthly payment. Shame that I had just gotten my Suburban where I wanted it, painted it, and had it all gone through only for some woman who was so interested in the sale she had to get to take it out.

Very nice Dodge pickup Snubby, I know a few people who have one's like that and are very happy with them.

Nice Ram there Snubby,
I see yer' good at keepin' the missus happy.
Wise Man. I'll never buy a brand New one again.
Let somebody willing to take the depreciation hit.
Keep that one out of the ditches.

That's the thing. We were in Winchester for a doctors appointment when we decided to swing by the Toyota dealer to see what they had. We looked at a coupla Tacomas and saw the big shiny Dodge sitting there.
Just under sixty three thousand miles on a 2006 and the price was right in our range.
We weren't intending to buy just yet but we just couldn't walk away from this one.

Nice truck!

My first, and only truck, was a 99 Ram 1500 but with the half doors not the 4 full doors like you have. That thing was a beast. During the 05 snow storm it was like driving in July. ....but it also ate gas like a beast. 8mpg city :(. I had it for about a year and as soon as I found a buyer it was gone....

My only other 4x4 was a 88 Bronco II. not bad. Bought for $800 in 02 and sold for $600 in 04 and it wasn't pretty

Congrats Snubby, real nice looking truck, very clean... What year is it? You'll be buying some more gas, compared to your Taco, but just look at it like buying some extra safety insurance.

It's a 2006. Not an everyday driver. We have a Toyota Yaris for that. It's gonna be our long road trip, using for setting up a vendors table at local flea markets, fairs and festivals, getting down out of the mountains when it snows, then after it melts and turns to mud, hauling our mountain bikes, going camping, hauling whatever needs hauling vehicle.
Might even drive it in the Memorial Day Parade next year.
The Yaris gets up to 40mpg but it's too small and crampy for a long road trip.
The truck's big and cushy. It's about like driving a sofa.

Congradulations! Great to come across one that "just seems right". Travel safely and in good health!

A few years before I retired I bought a diesel FWD Ford F250 crew cab pick-up and it is our long travel vehicle. We just returned from a 4K trip to the mid-West to see new grandson. Both my wife and I enjoy traveling in it as it is very comfortable and really like the height as we are above the level of the cars. Being a crew cab, we can carry adult passengers with no problems. Since it is an F250, we carry just about anything with no problems and 17-18 mpg is not bad.

Nice truck. Is it 4WD? For some reason, my sound goes out on YouTube, so I don't know if you mention that in your video. I like big trucks.

That ain't a drawback, that's a throwback to the past. Wasn't that long ago they ALL were single cabs. It will get warm or cold quicker without all that extra square footage and I like the looks of a single cab a lot more.
I'm betting if you let this one go you're gonna regret it. Low mileage, senior owned, creampuff! :)
