I finally got out to shoot my "new to me" Mod. 36 nodash 38 special today.

Might need a spring job, as some of the handload primers of my buddy's wern't going off.

I'm going to do a detail strip this week, and we'll make final decisions on what's up.

Every Federal load fired single & double action.

That baby cracks!

At about 15 yards I was about to keep about an 8" group. I figure that's not too bad for a newbie.

If it worked with factory ammo, don't fool with it. It is likely there were problems with your buddy's reloads. The 36s are classics, enjoy!

I consider it my birthright to fool with things...

Plus, the double action could use some "softening"

get yourself a copy of jerry Kunhussen's S&W revolver shop manual, the trick for removing the sideplate is worth the price.
if after a cleaning and lubing the problem persists i have had some luck just stretching the mainspring a little and reinstalling. i often find that guns i buy used have never been cleaned or lubed inside and doing so smooths out the action considerably and increases hammer speed.
then get back to plinkin'. life really is all about an old S&W and a coffee can full of reloads. wish i were there.
Regards,
Rich
