This is about good movie music in the film, but not the main theme.

Here's Clannad with the love song from, Last of the Mohicans. Pretty impressive, I Will Find You. If it takes a thousand years, across many frontiers.

The master of music in the movie, and integrating soundtrack and action, was of course the recently departed Ennio Morricone.

Since we already posted "Once Upon A Time ..." and "The Good, The Bad, ..." in those threads, here is another one of my favorite "musical showdowns".

I may be in the minority here, but I've always liked Danny Elfman's scores.

One of my favorite scenes/score from Batman (1989):

I think the scene and score work really well together. It does incorporate elements of the main theme, though.

For soundtracks, I've always liked the song selections for American Pop, an animated movie from the early 80s by Ralph Bakshi. Basically, it uses music to cover the history of the last 100 years or so.

FYI, even though it's animated, it is not what I would consider "family friendly."

What comes to mind and are dated but were cultural phenomenons.

Star Wars

Rocky

Saturday Night Fever

Are you thinking the tune as you read them, you know them all...

Street of Fire

Streets of Fire is one of my favorites. Several years ago I had the chance to watch it on the big screen. Lots of fun. Good music, too. I have the soundtrack on CD, and I think I have it in the car (my most frequently listened-to CDs are kept in my car).

the only thing good about the movie Easy Rider was the soundtrack

Dennis Hopper made my butt want to smoke a cheap cigar and take a dip of snuff.

"Awwww Maaaan" His whining was unbearable and He was a cry baby in another movie as well Giant, with Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.

After those two movies I have never been able to sit through any movie he is in.

This is not a movie, rather a series but the music is awesome and adds a lot of drama to the story. I about half way through season 5 of Sons of Anarchy. One of the strongest story line of any movie or series I've ever seen and the music, in some of the more emotional scenes is haunting.
I couldn't not mention it here.

Carry on.

Everything Miami Vice of course and HEAT. And then there's THIEF :)

Love that movie.

James Caan, Tuesday Weld, Jim Belushi, Willie Nelson and Dennis Farina. Directed by Michael Mann and produced my Jerry Bruckheimer. Don't get much better than that :D

Elmer Bernstein is the guy. Music for many westerns, and the music from the ad "beef, its what's for dinner"

Among many other movies, he also did the score for Walk on the Wild Side - a great score, especially the beginning where a black cat is walking to the music. I still have the 1962 sound track album -somewhere. Sort of odd, the sound quality on side A is much better than that on side B, and always has been. A bad pressing, I guess.

Love that too. I had a phase where I was a big Tangerine Dream fan. My favorite has always been “Confrontation“.
