I'm looking for an inexpensive OWB holster to use when doing yardwork and other cases where it might be more comfortable than my normal IWB method. I found the leather slide holster on Cabela's website which comes in generic sizes for small, medium, and large semi-autos. I carry a Shield and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with these holsters. Thanks.

I can't tell you about Cabela's, but I use a BlackHawk Serpa for OWB carry. I use the U-lock Mod clip with it and it is easy on...easy off. The serpa is a polymer material that adds a level of retention so the gun stays in the holster instead of falling out. It has a minimal footprint and, like I said, is polymer so sweating isn't an issue. People that claim problems with the Serpa retention design are using the holster wrong.

BLACKHAWK! SERPA CQC w/Matte Finish - BLACKHAWK!

You can get it for under $44 on Amazon with prime shipping. It works well with the supplied hardware (pancake and belt loop connections) but I like the U-Lock Mod better (also available on Amazon).

Good luck.

I have a couple of those Bulldog holsters, but I found them at a surplus store for $15. They're OK, but they aren't molded to the gun so they're a sloppy fit for some guns. The Shield fits in the medium as I recall. If you're doing anything strenuous I'd find something better.

I use a DeSantis Mini Scabbard when doing activities as you describe but they are about twice the price of the Cabelas model.

Try a Hidden Hybrid maybe? Works real nicely on the Shield IWB or OWB.
Well made. SAFE. Fits the pistol perfectly. Good retention.
Not the least expensive, but a GOOD holster that's "convertible" with both clips and belt loops. Adjustable.

Like JLD, I use a DeSantis mini scabbard for OWB with my shield.

I don't have experience with the Cabela's holster but since others are suggesting - I really like my Galco Stinger OWB holster for my Shield 9MM. For in the house and around the property, I switched from my Remora IWB to the Stinger. Works so well I forget it's even on my belt. Lots of good suggestions so far. Good luck!

I don't want to sound like a smartass here, not in the least, but while I don't have it in my hands right know, the last two Smith and Wesson pistols I bought (within the last 40 days actually both, the M&P Shield and the M&P 22 Compact) came with a little glossy-cardstock booklet that lists all the accessories and implements made for this specific gun including the Holster options - you may check that out?

Yardwork? I'd want something sweatproof with good retention.

Look at a Safariland 537x or 637x holster, they're cheap, durable and secure. Last digit 7 will get you a belt loop, 8 will get you a belt loop and a paddle and 9 will get you a clip-on.

My son bought a Blackhawk Sportster for the Glock 19/23/32/36 for his Sig Mosquito and it fits my shield. that's what I use when I want to OWB carry my shield. It's very comfortable. I think he paid $25 at walmart for it.

I also have bought a Blackhawk Sportster (Inside-the-Pocket) from Walmart- $10.97 - for my Shield. It is listed as being for a "Glock 26/27, Kahr PM9, and most all other SubCompact 9/.40s" - it has been perfect and I use it every day. I literally bought it a few days , 3? after getting the Shield (I knew I had spent most all of my cash for a month on the Shield and would not be able to accessorize [including holsters] for a while) and have been pocket carrying it with this Blackhawk every day since... All it does is work great.

Maybe not the FANCIEST, but hey, that is not what I was looking for. They also have a few different other holsters, including a few larger sized hip holsters. In fact I am planning on trying out one of the larger hip holsters for my M&P 22 Compact w/ the Walmart-purchased Nebo PROTECT Elite HP190 weapons light. I figure, I can try it for 10-20 bucks, return if it doesn't work, and if it works golden, if not, no big deal. ( It would be murder to find a holster for the M&P22C w/ this light, if not impossible, and even IF I could it would be so much money I would be able to just buy a common $1-$200 light and holster lol.)

Very highly recommend these inexpensive, serviceable Blackhawk holsters. And just FYIs, my Walmart is stocking more and more stuff in the Gun area, I am talking about AR-15 stocks , pistol grips, foregrips, holsters, lights and lasers, multitude cleaning gear, etc.

+1 with this recommendation. Take look on eBay too, sometimes you can pick them fairly cheap. Love mine, retention is great.
