This has probably been answered before, but I'm new to this forum and can't see it. I have just got a model 49 bodyguard that another member on here has kindly found out was delivered from the factory in 1989. The gun appears almost unused. Is +P safe to use in this revolver? Given the short barrel is there any real advantage to it?

Yes, it is safe for + P. Short-barreled guns need all the help they can get and + P loads do perform better than standard loads, but practice with standard/target loads and occasional + P use for familiarity is easier on both the gun and your bank account.

It won't take many +P rounds to make your hand tired, but the gun will be fine. Some ammo is designed for shorter barrels, so shop around, and don't worry if it is +P or standard.

My old 49 is one of my "test" snubbies. I've shot a lot of +P and a little +P+ in it, with no signs of wear or damage evident. Those little all-steel J-frames are tough.
