+P in model 59

Should (not can) +P (or even +P+) be used in an original 1st generation model 59? Thanks for your input. Bill

Should you rev you car to redline before you shift? Like anything the more pressure you put something under, the faster it will wear. A model 59 is already 30 years old to start with, do you know how much it has been shot already? Normal lifespan of a alloy frame gun is 50,000+ rounds with regular maintinance if you use a lot of plus P and keep a good recoil spring in it every 4-5,000rds it will no doubt be less but nothing lasts forever. There is no standard for +P+ so use it at your own risk.

I wouldn't....

These guns are quite solid, and if well maintained might take it, but IMHO it'd be risky.

First of all, the gun wasn't designed for loads like that....

Secondly, why? "Bragging rights" don't count.... SD use pretty much allows you to get away with about any JHP that'll feed. If you want better penetration (and expansion), consider the newer loads with plastic fillers inside the hollow point.

If you must use those +P and +P+ loads, buy a new gun that's built for 'em....

S&W specifically recommends against +P+ ammo because there is no pressure standard.

+P is probably OK, but serves no purpose other than vanity in 9mm as there are many excellent cartridges that achieve required penetration and expansion standards without resorting to higher than standard chamber pressures.
