Hey some here going to say told you so, but here goes. Life change a bunch moved from a florida town I grew up in and spent 50 years in population of 30 k. To a Florida town population less than 2 k. About two and half years ago. Needless to say not alot here lol. So I haven't been two a range untill last week. Only one here. I found two of my carry guns Xds 45 , and a Keltec .380 bolth had what seemed to be weak fireing rounds threw the magazines that had same rounds for around 2.5 years. Before y'all start lol. Those guns where still cleaned very regulary it's just they weren't fired.The Keltec had 1st round with no fire and three you could hear weak rounds. This gun has had over 5k threw it 1st issue. The xds had one weak round and two faul to eject.After those mags empty bolth ran all rounds fine 50 or so threw bolth. I just think the heat and them not being fired that long caused the issue. I will try and get back to a more routine range trip at least monthly.

I would try different brands of ammo and see which one works best for the gun. The guns can stay dormant for many years and since you clean them on a regular basis after each firing session, The fact is they should work and not prone to storage fatigue. There are basically two areas on a gun that would be prone to problems and they are the extractor and magazine. Both of these areas work hard and have most of the problems. I am sure the problem you are having is due to ammunition digestion. Springfield XD guns are very well designed and since I have had one XD and traded it for the new XDE, I have never had a mishap on either gun. Hope this helps.

That is no guarantee either. Sounds ammo related. Anyone only shooting once a year should probably reconsider carrying a gun at all imo. Rotate your carry ammo annually.

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM? IDK.

Is your issue with the mag springs, the ammo, or time turning oil into a thicker sludge??? I've also had NO ISSUES with old ammo (if stored well), NO issues with Sig mag springs left loaded for 25 years. MY GUESS is the oil thickened up, or maybe it was the plastic.

Well, I know you said they were clean but did you really clean out the chamber before shooting them? I shoot only my reload lead rounds in my M&P Pro and can quickly tell when the chamber is dirty. The slide slows up and it feels like light rounds. Wonder if the oil you stored in them has hardened up some.

I like lubricants that totally dry on the gun (like Hornady One Shot) because they don't goop up, attract dirt or lint, or soil/oil my clothing.

Metallic ammo should last decades, I have regularly fired 40 year old stuff without issue.

In a revolver (like my M640 EDC) the springs are not under compression when the gun is not being fired, they should last indefinitely.

In my 1911 type semi the recoil spring and firing pin spring are not in compression until the gun fires, the hammer spring is only in compression if the hammer is cocked, but the magazine spring is under compression if the mag is loaded.

How long will can a hammer or mag spring remain in compression without weakening, I don't know. I don't leave the hammer cocked or the mags loaded because it is not my EDC.
