Dunno about Oregon, but Seattle tried the per cartridge tax a few years ago. Last I heard the were whining about how it didn't raise the anticipated funds for "violence prevention" - because people just started buying all their ammo outside the city limits (DUH!) so they even lost the regular tax revenue on the sales! I know they were at least talking about repealing it since it was such a dismal failure.

Wouldn't surprise me to see some Oregon cities try it too, though. The folks in charge their obviously aren't all that smart. I doubt that the whole state has or would try something so dumb though.

It's easier to go from Seattle to Shoreline or Renton to buy ammo than it is to go out of State. And, out of State might not be enough in the northeast. Might have to go to Georgia before long, if this sort of thing continues. It's also a different thing to buy untaxed ammo, which is identical to the taxed stuff, than to buy un neutered ammo, which is not the same as the altered stuff!

We'll see how that one flies in court. Since WV passed a law to exempt firearms and ammunition from state sales tax, there is a clear counter theory.

Ammunition is an integral part of firearms ownership, so the penumbra of the Second Amendment should extend to it.

I've been saying for a few years that firearms and ammunition should be exempt from sales tax because it's a tax on a Right enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

Poll taxes were deemed illegal by SCOTUS, so there is precedent for a right being exempt from taxation.

They are not ‘infringing’ on firearms. Constitution says nothing about ammo. That’s how they ‘back door’ these things.
