Pachmayr Compac Pro J frame discontinued, apparently

I bought a set of Pachmayr Gripper for K/L frame grips to use with a K-frame.

The bolt hole is exactly where the mainspring is on my pre-MIM Model 10 and my newer Model 64. Works with the 686, though.

I had the exact same problem on my Model 19, so I ended up not being able to use those Gripper grips. Then, I sent the gun to Smith & Wesson for some warranty work (the gun was spitting lead at me), and after it came back, I tried again, and I was then able to install the Gripper grip. Maybe they tightened something up while they had it just enough that the spring was no longer in the way??

That seller mentioned earlier looks like Drop Seller.
War Story - sort of.
A while back my Computer Luddite Buddy Tom wanted an expensive Coffee Maker. Like $2k.
So I do a search and find a massive number of sellers who claim they have it.
I print about 200 and tell him, ain’t no way Jose that many folks have a $2,000 Eyetalian Coffee Maker in stock!
Our Coffee Roaster Norm tells him to call some folks in SF who actually import them.
He calls them, they have them in stock for $1,800.
And they open and test them before they sell them!
I didn’t see that coming!

FWIW, the standard Compacs cover the backstrap. The Compac Pro is smaller because it does NOT cover the backstrap. The pics here show this, if anyone didn’t know.

Same for the corresponding RB/K Compac Pro. Backstrap not only uncovered but higher than the grip sides. No protection when shooting a snub 19/66.

I've posted this before, if you have a wheel gun with a favorite grip in for servicing, replace that grip beforehand. Word to the wise.

A while back I had Boots on my 642 and my shorty 63.
Put Compacs on the 642, wanted back strap covered and a ‘fatter’ grip.
Put Pros on the 63, wanted a little longer grip.

I'm guilty of having a weakness in buying grips, I just can't help myself. I don't mind having 2-3 or more grips for one handgun, I just like changing them out for a new look or feel. I was never really of fan of Pachmyer grips until I bought my used 64-2 that had a set of compact grips with covered backstrap on it and they have become my favorite grips on a k-frame short barreled revolver.

I have been a fan of these grips for the J Frame for a long time. As soon as you put on a larger grip, you lose the advantage of the J Frame in my opinion. Go to a K Frame snubby if you are going to put on big grips...action is easier to tune and the sights are WAY easier to see. The J Frame is the gun I carry when I can't carry a gun.
