Pachmayr Compac Professional Grips

I got a good buy on these grips when I purchased them from a seller on eBay. I thought I was buying the Compact Grips which cover the back strap but these are the "Professional" grips with the open back.

I have them on a 2" Model 10. After I put them on the gun I found out that I like them very much. These grips are not much thicker than the Magnas on a J frame. They extend slightly below the bottom of the butt and have a window for the serial number to show through.

I had Uncle Mike's on the gun before these. I like the Uncle Mike's but not for a carry gun. The Uncle Mike's have finger grooves which I think slow down good acquisition on a draw from the holster. Also the UM grips are much wider than these Compac.

Another nice thing about these grips is that they allow a 2 1/2 finger grip so that the pinky does not have to hold on underneath the grip.

And something else. I know a lot of folks like wood grips. But for carry I like the synthetics. In my opinion these carry well and look good also.

do they offer those for a square butt? I have an old M36 with a sure butt with the combat grips, they are a bit big for conceal carry

For square butt they offer The Gripper and the Gripper Professional and the Presentation. The open back ones are the Gripper Professional and they will be a little more compact. The "Presentation" grips look like they would be harder to conceal but they are the only square butt without the finger grooves.

I have a set of Compact Pro's I've floated through my J's.

Great trigger control and they shoot well. The rubber tends to print my vest so I've not carried them much.

The Precision Hideout Grips from Brownells are similar in hard plastic (or nylon or something).

My favorite grips of all time.

I put a bunch of holes in paper every couple of days. And I do it better with Pach's than with the 60 year old 2x4s that came with my gun(s).

Don't know if their design and manufacturing has changed, but back in the day (about 25 years ago) they used to put steel pates underneath the rubber to stiffen the grip. These rubber plates would routinely cut their way through the rubber as they were close to the inside surface and reek havoc on the guns blue or nickel finish. That is when I tossed all my Pachmeyer grips and started using the factory grips with Tyler T's.

Not saying you shouldn't use them, but do keep an eye out for steel coming through the rubber inside the grip.

I can remember seeing rubber grips as you describe, chief, for 1911s. I can't recall that they were packys or something else. I've got a set of pack professionals on my K frame from 1976 that has no steel inserts except for the grip screw grommets. I've got a brand new, less than year old set of the same grips on another K frame. They are identical. No steel inserts in either of those professional models, at least.

The Compac Pros are my all time favorite revolver grip!
For taking pretty pics, I love wood....
For shooting well, I love rubber.

I especially love the grips that the OP mentioned, because of the exposed backstrap (thinner, more concealable design) and NO finger grooves (allows for a faster acquisition of firing grip).
Also, these grips, while being thin and concealable, fill the area under the trigger guard (much like a Tyler T grip would do), making for a great shape for my hand.

I install these grips on every defensive revolver that I own!
for some reason, I never have a problem with these sticking to my cover garments?

I'm running a set of Grippers on my M19 2 1/2". I like them, but I have smaller hands. I may try a set of these. I'm a firm believer in smaller grips on a carry gun. The grip shape on a revolver really lends itself well to concealed carry and these seem to do very little to hinder that advantage. (Also, nice M66 Wheelyfun66!)

Have never understood these grips. They do not cover the backstrap for recoil cushioning. They allow the backstrap, besides being exposed, to protrude by being small on their sides. In this way, the recoil can get a better grip on your hand and cause additional discomfort.

P.S. THe metal inserts on Pachs mentioned above also made the grip too heavy, unlike the fiberglass inserts in Sile rubber grips. We also found a problem with rust underneath the Pachs, not with the Siles.

I much prefer the Pachmayr Compacs that cover the backstrap and give purchase to the little finger (which also serves to index the grip). Yes, they are a little bulkier, but I've used a set to pocket-carry a J-frame for thirteen years or so. I can conceal the gun easily and have never had any problem with the grips dragging on fabric. The rubber used, at least when I bought mine, gives a good grip but isn't tacky like Hogues or Uncle Mikes' I've handled.

Don't know what they cost new, but FWIW not long ago I bought a set of used RB J Pachmayr Compac grips from Numrich for $9.25 plus s&h. Also bought a couple sets of used RB J uncle mike boots for $10.45 each. As usual with Numrich, you have to search around on their website a bit to find stuff- for example, I search not only under model 36, but also Chief Special and j-frame parts.

I first saw the Compacs on a Detective Special, and they sort of snuggled into my hand and said, "Hello, let's go to the range."

When I bought the 640 no-dash I've carried daily for years, I immediately put the Pachmayrs on it and love them. I'm elderly and very arthritic, and the Compacs make shooting the FBI load in a J-frame much more comfortable.

These are eagle secret services. They are good but lately I have put the original high horns back on trying them for pocket carry.
