I put a pair of Pachmayr Gripper Pros on my 1917 yesterday. Great improvement over the small, uncomfortable, battered originals... BUT.

The grips don't fit against the frame, especially on the right side. There appears to be a potential for pinching, dust catching, or just driving the edge of the rubber into my palm. Are these recent 'N-frame grips' not suitable to a gun of this vintage? Or have I found a way to misinstall them?

Trading for a pair of 'presentations' would be an acceptable option if anyone has a need.

Thanks

Try a Tyler T-Grip with the original grips. You don't need Pachmayr grips for reduced loads in a 1917. It will look better and feel good in the hand as well. Save the Pachmayr grips for the times when you shooting stout loads with a .44 or .41 magnum.

You can use a Pachmayr or Mershon type adapter, also.

I guess one question has morphed into two.

In terms of style, and possibly of fit, a grip adapter and 'conventional' grips are a good bet. BUT, the primary question remains:

How bad a fit is acceptable between Pachmayr 'grippers' and an N-frame? Shouldn't a grip intended to leave the backstrap uncovered be fitted very precisely to sais backstrap?

Thanks

I just looked at a couple of Pachmayrs on a Model 63 and a Model 640, and there seems to be lots of space between the grips and the frame on the right side, where the grip covers the sideplate. So if that is what you are talking about, it's probably normal.
