Pachmayr pistol range box

I found a very nice used one one eBay last fall at a decent price. Shipping cost about as much as I paid for the box.

I used one for years. Put four guns and a few hundred rounds of ammo, a scope on the lid, and various accouterments and that thing gets HEAVY! That's why I gave up on it. I don't recall tan ones. Then again maybe I do. I'm foggy on that. Most were black. It looks so clean I wonder if maybe it was recovered.

I would have probably bought it too. Might never have used it, but I would have bought it.

I had one of the black covered ones years ago, bought used and sold not very long after. When I got into casual Bullseye matches, I bought another homemade copy from the estate of a gunsmith I knew. Then I inherited one like the OP has. Dad had bought it when he dallied with Bullseye. Finally, I inherited yet another homemade example from the estate of another gunsmith friend. I wish I were still strong enough to haul one of those boxes full of guns to shoot Bullseye! 😳

Heres the sides of mine Ive had since the 70s. Didnt post pics of top or other end as would have gotten a “ ding”. Lower left gun control sticker was one of the first to come out. Buddies at the range and I got one, I stuck one on a B-8, ran it down to 25 yards and shot it 6 times with my M-19 match pistol, gotten lots of laughs over the years. Last week went to county range and RO didn't know it was, had to explain it to him . He like insides better, lol.

I don't see the lid clip? There's usually a "U" shaped metal piece held in by the gun clamp nut. You remove it and when the box is open you slide it over the hinge so one side is on the inside of the lid, and the other inside the top. It keeps the lid from blowing closed in the wind. That lid sticking up is like a sail. You can use a big binder clip or a small c-clamp instead. They seem to get lost all the time.

That’s a great buy!
They can go for $200 or more in that kind of condition on eBay or to some bullseye shooter.
The one I have been using for years is a Gun-Ho, an inexpensive version of yours. It is heavy when fully loaded.

I used a simple swivel hook and loop on the side. Have a nice spotting scope that has an excellent adjustable stand. Knew guys that had scope mount inside lid and they had to carry scope and attach it once lid was opened and latched. Each to his own.

A friend and I have pistol cases. He has a Gun-Ho and I have a Pachmayr and a Gun-Ho. Both of mine cost me less than $50.00 a piece as both have spotting scopes. Yes, they are heavy, but carry everything you need. Lots of folks ooh and aah over them until they pick one up. I use a luggage dolly to move mine from the car to the firing point and back. I see them all the time on Ebay at $200.00 or so asking....none seem to sell. Never see them at gun shows anymore. If the LGS gets them in, in an estate buy, they ask $25.00 for them....they don't sell often either.
