Pancake for N frame carry?

I carry different guns at different times, based pretty much on what I am wearing and where I am going. Sometimes I wonder if I would be better off just sticking to one or two. "Beware the man with only one rifle. He probably knows how to use it." I enjoy mixing it up and switching around. I would like to work a couple of 4" N frames into the rotation. Have any of you used a Lobo pancake for a 4" N frame? If so what are the pros and cons? I have a couple of Ray's holsters and like his work better than any others I have tried.

i too have a tagua for my 686+ 2 1/2 i dont care for it as it rides to high for me and prints the but really bad , however it is the only one i have until i decide to get one made the thing i dont want to duplicate is the same thing with my tagua .

i think the 2 1/2 is the culprit though in this case hopefully someone will come along with a review of a lobo enhanced avenger and tell me how it rides or maybe i could talk to ray and see if he could lower it a bit.

I use a Desantis lined speed scabbard. Cost a bit more than most, but 100% worth it.

I use a DeSantis with my 627 Pro pretty regularly. I'm a little guy and it works great for me...

I bought an Alessi CQC (non-snap) for a 4" 686-plus L-frame and another for a 29-8 "Mountain Gun", also 4". I really like them. The materials and construction is first rate, and I didn't even need a plastic bag or waxed paper for break-in. There's even a little lip molded in to clear the cylinder on re-holstering.

Tom recommends against the quick snap version of the CQC - it puts too much tension on the cylinder for a smooth draw.

I have one. It's as good a holster as any to carry around a big gun. How much can you really do with a holster for an N-Frame? You have to wear it under a poncho or a coat or something....My Lobo holsters if fine. I just rarely carry an N-Frame because I don't usually care to carry something so big, concealed, for 6 rounds off-duty. I can't imagine there is much distance separating the really good N-Frame holsters from the just plain good ones. I prefer to carry a .45 if I'm going to carry a larger gun. I've got a bunch of handguns and the one I almost always revert to is my 649 in a Mika pocket holster.

I have Lobo Enhanced Pancaked with Optional Inner hammer Shields for my 4" 610, 4" 64, as well as my 4" 617.

No issues at all. The 4" length requires a little longer cover garment than a 2", 2-1/2" or 3" barrel holster. You also need a good belt. I have compact combats on my snubs, and Full Size Finger Groove grips on my 4" guns. I normally wear a little baggier cover garments when carrying a 4" gun due to the Full Size grips.

I carry everything a 4 O'Clock.

I relocate my billfold from my right back pocket, to my left front pocket when carrying a 3" or 4" barrel revolver. The muzzle covers the back pocket of my pants, making it a real pain to access your billfold when carryed in the Right Back pocket.

Yeah me too. When I head for the door picking up the 642 is like picking up the car keys. Didn't realize when I started buying these things that each one was going to have to have its own holster and grips. They seem to be a jealous bunch.

Especially you Lobo users. My holster box is fast filling. I have a Galco, a couple of Desantis, Bianchi, El Paso, a Simply Rugged, a Don Hume and even a Fobus. They all have their purpose, but my going out the door with a gun on my side is Lobo. Quality, functional, cost effective, good service, I'm a fan.

OP:

IMHO carrying a lot of different guns is not a great idea. If and when TSHTF you don't want to have to remember which gun you are carrying and how it operates, shoots, feels, etc. I like to keep things simple and carry the same boring gun in the same boring holster every day. Once in a while when I am venturing out into the woods (Bear Country) I'll go from my 2" M60-7 J-frame to my 3" M65 K-Frame loaded with Buffalo Bore 180 grain .357 Magnums. They are basically the same gun, just different in frame size but operate exactly the same. I own plenty of guns, but only relegate these two for carry on a daily basis.

As far as carrying N frames (CCW) I personally think they are just too big and bulky when I can carry the same .38 special or .357 Magnum in a much smaller, lighter and less bulky package. If you ONLY have one gun (an N frame) and could not afford a smaller one for CCW I could see carrying it rather than nothing at all, but if you are a regular "toter" and can spare the coin, I would personally opt for a smaller CCW gun.

I know it's exiting to carry different guns on different days, but by designating one gun for CCW makes you totally familiar and comfortable with it should you ever need it fast. Just my .02 cents of course..........

I have a Kramer belt scabbard that I like for my N-frames. It conceals very well and is comfortable. I'm tall and skinny so YMMV.

I'd parrot another poster that muscle memory is your friend. For social purposes I only carry two different guns, a G23 or a PM9. They function the same. If I'm carrying something else it in addition to one of my "always guns".

I have several of Rays holsters including a few of the Enhanced Pancake model, for both 1911 Commander and for various Revolvers .... at the moment he is just finishing one for my 686 4" and I'm sure it will be as comfortable and functional as all his others .... great work at great prices; you can't go wrong with him.

what one are you getting please post some pics i am looking for my 686+ 2 1/2 i am starting to look really hard at that avenger .
