Paper shotgun shells

A friend gave me about 25 boxes of these shells, mostly paper & a few plastic. 12, 16 and 410 ga. Some are full boxes and some are the two piece boxes & unopened, worth anything or could I just shoot them? They are Rem., Win., & the two piece boxes are Sellier & Bellot. Also some Revelation and Fed.

The paper shells are OLD and might be worth to a collector.

Gotta have pics to have a clue. The plastic stuff is shooter material, for sure. The valuable stuff will be really old and colorful type boxes. Pre-War, most likely.

At least WWII, but most likely earlier than that for real Money. Not a lot of the good collector stuff laying around, these days.

A couple of companies, including Federal, still make paper hull shells.

They smell good...

They sure do. I'm off tomorrow morning to hunt pheasants with a Beretta 686 but the loads will be an ounce of 6s in Peters High Velocity cartridges, made when 20-gauge ammo came in blue paper hulls. The blue and yellow box says these loads have the ''New Peters Crimp.''

Federal paper shells are liked by a lot of people. Our club used to run Turkey Shoots. We went through a lot of ammo, like pallet loads each year. We had competition from other shoots, but we ran a pretty good one with a lot of shooters. One thing many of them said is they liked our ammo! The other ones used a mix of ammo, whatever they could find cheap. We just ordered a couple of pallets each year.

There are some reloaders who seem to prefer paper, too. The crimp apparently was the lure to them. The paper was just better.

I have no idea the value of the OPs hoard. I'd keep them just for fun. But then I don't throw away much that is useful.

They may have some value to a cartridge collector. Depends on what period they are and what condition the boxes are in.
If you search for some ammo collector sites you can get a better idea.
Condition of the shells and the headstamps are also very important as to the value.

Ditto as far they may be worth something, especially the unopened boxes. If you are shooting them, just don't get them wet or they swell up and can cause jams or feeding problems.

post some pics if you can. that will help a bunch. the two piece boxes you shouldn't shoot until you find out what they are. could be worth some bucks.
