I really want to streamline my collection. I will occasionally hunt white tail deer with a .44, limiting myself to archery distances (35-40 yards). But mostly it will be a sidearm for camping, hiking, etc.

Which ONE would you keep and why?

The first one to say, "Keep Em All!" or anything like that will have their parentage called into question.

- S&W 629-3 5" Classic. Has been bead blasted, laser etchings no longer visible. Very accurate.

- 629-4 Mountain Gun 4"

- Ruger Redhawk 4" Stainless.

For your purpose,the Mountain gun,otherwise I really like 5 inch N frames.

Tough call between the Mountain Gun and the 5". I would lean toward the MG though.

Given your intended use the MG make the most sense.

Personally, I would keep the Mountain Gun.

I'm partial to the way a 5 inch N frame handles. Also I'm a relatively big guy so the difference in weight between the Classic and the MG isn't a big deal to me. I guess once you've carried a SAW in an Iraqi summer and a radio in an Afghani winter a few ounces here and there isn't a big deal.

5" Classic in .44 Mag, unless the Mountain Gun was in .45 LC (the perfect caliber combo).

Since your primary use for the gun is carry vs. hunting I'd go Mountain Gun. I had the exact same pair to go with a Ruger 77/44 Carbine and decided the Mountain Gun fit the bill better than the Classic.

One of my hunting partners bought the Classic as it had at one time been his Uncle's gun before his Uncle traded it to me for one of the MGs I had....
