I need a few parts for an original S&W Top Break. The parts I'm looking for appear to be standard on the Schofield, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Model Russians, and the New Model #3.

Question: Does anyone here know who might stock old parts like this?

If I knew who stocked these, I'd buy them out! You can try Numrich, David Chicoine, Popperts Gun Parts, Jack First, etc. Otherwise keep a look out for junker guns at guns shows & auction sites. Plus, find a good machinist that can make parts for you, if you don't have the tools, equipment or skills.

That is correct. David Chicoine referred my to Jack First. I was able to get an original trigger actuated cylinder stop from them.

"I need a few parts for an original S&W Top Break." And the parts would be?? There might be someone reading your post that could help? I haven't done my homework; are the parts listed in the FS/Wanted section? Mike #283

I wasn't aware of that FS section. I'll check. I need a hand and some sideplate screws and the cylinder spindle retaining screw (not proper name)

Well, I got my original cylinder stop, as well as several Uberti parts (hand, screws, front sight blade, hand spring). I general, these Uberti parts don't fit too well. Fortunately, I am able to modify the Uberti parts with a little TIG welding and diamond files to work just fine. In general, I don't think I'd recommend trying to replace original parts for a 1st Model Americn with Uberti parts unless you plan to do a fair amount of modification on the Uberti parts. By the way, my rule of thumb is that the American parts stay original and unmodified; modifications are only done on the Uberti parts. Anyone who takes a file to any original parts needs their hands slapped.

Many thanks to Win38-55!!!

I had been looking for a cylinder stop for my Model 3 New Model, but was unable to track one down. The last time I tried Jack first (and everywhere else) they didn't have any. Jack First just told me that they have them in stock and that it'll ship today.

I had all but given up, but thanks to Win38-55 and Jack First, I'll be able to continue to shoot well in to the future!

"jack first seems to be the guy these days...they have some huge catalogs that illustrate a LOT of parts"

Really? He used to have no catalog - you had to call and ask.

Jack First has a hugh 3 vol catalog, with hundreds of schematic parts lists. Looks good on the shelf in your gun room, however that doesn't mean he can supply those parts, so it's still a **** shoot as to whether you will hit pay dirt on not. I've had some luck finding parts on Ebay from parts dealers who list gun parts, when you click on "what else is for sale in their store." Popperts has tons of S&W screws and small parts, however they are in bins and Popperts doesn't know what they fit, so you have to go pick out what you need.
