I was listening to a book on Audible and the author was talking about the secure server hack that happened to several notables back in 2015-2016, including then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former president GW Bush and Collin Powell. When most of us think of the term hacker, we conjure up a pimply faced teenager living in his mother's basement with mad computer skills. It turns out the person responsible, who called himself Guccifer (as in Gucci and Lucifer's lovechild) was a married 30 some year old Romanian who had almost no computer skills. What he did have however was mad research skills and determination.
Nor did he posses state of the art computer equipment, relying instead on an old laptop and dated cell phone. Using these, he able to hack the accounts of these famous people by researching them to learn children's names, childhood home addresses, the names of old flames, etc, patiently typing this info in until the words were accepted and he had access to the accounts. No slick hacker programing or spying over shoulders to snatch complex key codes. In one instance, he told authorities it only took a few minutes to crack one person's account.
And that, Ladies and Gentlemen is why password programs are important. Just don't use "Password" or "Fluffy" as your password to the program!
