I have a first model 22 Outdoorsman with a Partridge front sight that has been modified. My question is will any Partridge front sight blade fit in this base? I have an add under WTB but no luck yet. Thanks.

I believe not. The size and height depend on model and cartridge. In addition, most Patridge front sights will not have the silver dot of the 22 Outdoorsman sight.

Other than the typical Call bead this model had there is a second problem. The tang of the earlier pinned sights had a thickness of ca. .060" with just the exposed portion being .100 or .125" thick. This lasted until sometime in the 1950s or so when the pinned blades were changed to be full thickness throughout. In simple terms, no, later blades won't work.

O.K. if I can't find one can someone recommend a machinist who can make me one? I can do it but I am medically retired and I don't have a mill.
Have you considered a king sight blade or front sight assembly?
My three Outdoorsmans have a gold bead, a silver bead, and one with no bead at all. To be stock it could be any of the three.

At this point I would like any style that will fit in the stock barrel mount. I took the old one out and it doesn't look original. The bottom part is rounded like the original but it doesn't look factory. It is too crude. If I could get the original dimensions I could find a shop to make one. Will the king sight blade slip into this barrel mount? What about the other styles? Or do you have to remove the mount also.
Have you got anu pictures of the sight out of the gun?

Not yet but I will post some.
In a word yes! The after-market sight manufacturers made sights specifically to fit the different brands of revolvers back then just like they do now. Lyman, Redfield, King, etc., all had several styles to fit the Smiths.
If your sight was original to the gun and just mangled by someone, it will have the gun's serial or partial serial # on the 'Tenon' that fits down inside the 'mortise' in the base.

Thanks Jeff. I am not sure if this was the original sight that was cut down or a replacement. It doesn't have any numbers on it.

Well the #s are small but if you saw no numbers under good light with magnification then it's likely an after market sight that had the hatchet job on it and you can discard with joy. Seriously though since it fits your sight base, I would hang onto a bit longer in case you need to copy the shape of the bottom to a replacement.
Of course you know what that means...your original front sight blade is lying in the original box somewhere no man knows where.
