I wanted to hear Patton's speech from the movie and after some searching I finally found it. I could have pulled out the DVD but that would require getting up off my lazy butt...

During the week of BRM when I was in the Army, our senior DI woke us up with that recording every day....I like it

29 - What's BRM?

Also, thanks for your service.

Von - Where "just outside of Kansas City"? I'm in Blue Springs.

Do a search for the text of the actual speech, and see how much they cleaned it up for the movie.

Just read it, good stuff, What happened to our generals since his generation. Oh yea, They don't step a foot on the front lines until it is safe.

My "Patton" DVD has audio commentary from Francis Ford Coppola, who wrote the screenplay, and he noted that most of the execs were dead-set against starting the film with that speech. They thought showing Patton as a full general, in full dress uniform, on some sort of stage with no audience visible, was downright bizarre, and out of sequence with the rest of the film, and would turn the audience off.

Now it's regarded as one of the best movie beginnings ever filmed.

Those who love "The Godfather" might be interested to know that Coppola started that film with the undertaker's monologue ("I believe in America...") with the Patton speech in mind.

It is hard to believe that Patton and "Wesley Clark were both generals isn't it?. I'll take the likes of Patton, Puller, and those generals from time gone by. We then did believe that winning wasn't only important, but the only way. Now they don't want to keep score so little johnny won't feel bad. And God forbid we play dodge ball! it's so aggressive. We are wimping our youth the ones that are of the American spirit seem to already be in the armed forces...God bless them!! God save this wonderful country from the far left wing loons that seem to be prevalent these days.

Amen, George. The wife and I have been watching Patton 360 on the History Channel and we both wonder what happened to the country we grew up in.

Each generation has tried to make things easier for our kids than we had it. I think we went to far with the cars, clothes, laptops, cell phones, blackberry's and they now believe they are due a entitlement like some others that have been on the hand-out circle for generations. Americans will give a HAND UP but is galls us to give HAND OUTS, and hand outs, to same people that won't work and carry their share of the load.
