It had been a few days since I had checked my Messages, boy was I surprised when I did.

Awaiting my attention was a picture of an old used 5" .44 special. A friend of mine in Georgia had come across it sitting on the shelf with a discount tag. Well, of course I immediately called him to see where it was and if he thought it was still there? "Darn Matt, I don't know. That was a few days ago. I will send you their number."

Of course, no one would answer the first few times. Finally, "This is Kevin, how can I help you?"
Yeah Kevin, do you still have that ugly old Forty four? I quarried. "Oh,... I don't know, let me go check! ... We have an old 44, but it is just a special. It's not a magnum and it is pretty rough shape." Oh, well shucks. Can you tell me about that one? I inquired.

Kevin and I played phone tag for half of the day and I now know why he is not a photographer. Kevin was quite patient and helped me through all of my interrogation. Once I was somewhat satisfied, I asked what was the best he could on it? "I tell you what, I can go $850 shipped. How is that?" Are you ready for my card? I answered. I am now the awaiting delivery of a new and "special" to me forty-four. I really should check my messages more frequently!

When I first saw the photo of the grip frame serial number, I thought it may be a transitional model and Kevin did not capture the S. It turns out to be pre-war 60521. The 0 looked like a 3 at first to me.

I had to click through the pictures more than once!
That was a good score on a not commonly seen model. 3rd Models (& 1st Models, for that matter) have eluded me, thus far. Should you decide to change the stocks, enjoy the hunt. And, if successful, be sure to share more pictures down the road!

Handsome revolver! :D

My 44 3rd shipped May, 1940, with Magna stocks.

I brought the .44 home today. This old thing is in need of some serious rust mitigation. I did a light scrub this evening with Kroil and a large copper bore brush. I then did a quick clean and attempted to fit my stag Magnas. They look good but are a very poor fitting set of stocks to this one. I guess I will mix up some Reds, disassemble, and soak the revolver over the weekend. I need to find some copper wool.
