Hello! Local pawn shop has a 3" or 4" 27-2. Decent shape I might give it a 7 out of 10. Couple scratches here and there. end of the barrel on the side looks like it was maybe scratched on something rough. nothing terrible. Grips in great shape. No box. N56882 serial number. Also wanted to mention the trigger is much wider than any of the smiths I own. Is that normal?

Couldn't find much on a google search. What's it worth? He's got it at $599

What year? Worth anything?

Well worth $600 ... OTD if you can do it. Otherwise, carry a ACE bandage and insurance card b/c you will injure your arm getting your wallet out of your pocket to pay for this recover ... and you'll need the ACE bandage to make it feel better till you can get to the emergency room. In other words ... Model 27 w/ 3 1/2 inch barrel ... buy it right now! Or, please send me the phone number of the dealer so I can call him. :-) Sincerely. bruce.

$599 for a 3-1/2" M27-2? If you don't jump on that one there will be a dozen people around here who will want the info on the seller. I'd be one of them, but I don't have the cash right now.

EDIT: See what I mean? You already got one asking for the seller info before I could even finish typing my reply!

Even with the blemishes and no box it's a steel?

What's the deal with the wide trigger? Is it original?

What year is it?

Yes, that gun would be worth twice that or more if it were mint with box.

Yes, original trigger. It's called a target trigger. It also has the (larger) target hammer.

If I'm not mistaken, it was made between 1969-1972 (probably right in the middle of that range).

Very good price. Did you buy it?

Ok I went back and bought it. $599 cash out the door.

Couple more pics. Bore looks great. Appears to have not been shot much at all but likely carried. Can see the worst of it at the end of the barrel.

Glad you got it, that's what I call a Jesse James deal. Were you wearing your mask when you walked out the door with it?

Model 27s that shipped with target hammer and trigger also shipped with target stocks and in the wood box. Somebody changed something. Model 27s shipped in cardboard boxes with standard Magna stocks and standard hammer and trigger until 1975, when they shipped them in full target mode in the wood box. I think your serial number would have shipped in the 1970-71 timeframe, so maybe it was special ordered or someone changed out the hammer and trigger. Is the serial number stamped on the right stock?

Everything certainly looks original. You're saying the right stock should have matching serial number on the inside?
I googled "target stocks" and the pictures look like the grips that are on this gun.

Congratulations!! I looked a few years for a 27, and was never successful.
Did end up up with a real 28 no dash though. Your 27 is a shooter. There is nothing wrong with that. You won't cry if you put a scratch on it. You may find that a good clean up will pretty it up some. Enjoy your 27! Bob

The gun in the picture you show is wearing magna stocks and should have the serial number on the inside of the right panel if original to the gun.

The pawn shops we have around here never have anything. Neither do the LGS. All plastic or new stuff. Flitz, kroil( if necessary), BRONZE wool, pure copper penny and renaissance wax, patience and a gentle touch and you should have that baby looking like a million bucks.

Nice find!!!

Do you have a link to a video with this method? Never heard of any of that. Thanks!

If you are asking me for a video of cleaning, and removing light surface rust and freckles, I do not know of one. Those are just the things I use. The kroil disolves rust, a pure copper penny used lightly will remove light surface rust and is softer than steel. Use a wheat penny edge. The bronze wool with kroil will move surface rust, done LIGHTLY. When all satisfied that the surface is clean, wipe wit denatured alcohol or something to remove the oil on the gun. very lightly polish with flitz polish.Don't use pressure. Just be gentle, wipe off polish, and then wax, or oil if you prefer, or whatever you use as a rust preventer

So I finally got this thing home. They do have a serial number on the inside of the right panel but the serial number is not that of the frame.

Frame: N56882
Stock: 279821

Does that mean they are not original?
Does that mean I should shop for some sexier grips?

If I'm doing my research correctly the gun is a 70-71 and the grips are 75-77 is this correct?

Is there a way to find out if the hammer and the trigger are original?

Any suggestions on grips? Do these make it less desirable? Just leave as is? Find some cool aftermarket grips?

Metalfarm you made a very nice buy on that gun. Congrats :).

IMO, the pawnshop owner didn't know what the real value of that gun was .... to your benefit.

You asked about how to find out if the trigger and hammer are original to the gun and the only way to do that is to get it lettered.

In regards to the stocks......if it were mine I would be happy with the ones that came with it, but it's yours and you should do whatever makes you happy.

Don
