Pawn shop find. S&W Model 10 No Dash

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across a S&W Model 10 no dash, nickel, 4 screw at the local pawn shop. She was pretty ruff, had some rubber grips that were trashed, and the pawn shop employee said the cylinder was locked up. Something about that gun caught my eye so I decided to take a chance on it. $200 later I walked out the door with it. Here is the before:

Fast forward to today. I ordered a set of replacement grips then spent an hour polishing her while watching reruns of Seinfeld. I also discovered the reason the cylinder was locked up was because the ejector rod backed out slightly. A little locktite and she's good to go.

good find but locktite is a no no if tightened properly there is no need for it anywhere on a gun!

Please, tell us how YOU tighten them the correct way! Absolutely nothing wrong with using locktite if its used correctly!

I've not used it on a revolver, but there is a type of removable Loctite (blue label) made that doesn't lock very tightly, and no heat, etc., is required to loosen it. It cures to sort of a gummy consistency The only time I used it on a gun was for a barrel bushing on a Remington Model 81 rifle, and it worked OK for that.

There are many Loctite formulations available, suited for different applications.

You have a very fine example of the M-10 no dash. Enjoy it.

Must be the lighting. first picture looks nickel and the second looks blue. Cameras do weird things.

Nice buy and nice early Model 10 (after cleanup).
However, contrary to your assertion in the first post, it is not a five screw. Being a Model 10, it couldn't be, and the picture of the right side shows it is not.
Anyway, congrats on finding a nice revolver at an even better price.

You are correct sir. I hit the 5 key rather than the 4.

As for the comments on the locktite, I did use the blue label version and a very very small amount just to keep the rod in place. When I was taking the gun apart I found a neat little trick on how to open the cylinder using a business card.

It wasn't until the 10-2 that they changed the ejector rod to a left handed thread. That seemed to solve the problem with the rod backing out. I like the target stocks you chose for the gun. Did you get them from S&W? Now we need a range report. I'm betting it shoots really well. Have fun.
