Pawn Store 10-5

I walked away this week but hopefully it will still be there when I go back. Just wasn't ready to spend this much this week.
It is a 2" Nickel 10-5. Really beautiful except it was wearing these big honkin', finger grooved, rubber grips. Kinda like a prom queen wearing a potato sack? I didn't have them take the grips off yet but the tag had a D5XXXXX serial number so it must be early 70's.
Going to push to get the taxes done and some money headed this way this week. If the 'Finance Director' gives the okay then I'll go back and have them take the grips off to make sure everything is okay underneath. If it's clean I'll try to get them to knock some off of the 475 they are asking since I'll be having to buy some wood grips to put back on her.

I definitely agree that they don't look good to me with oversized rubbers on them. I know a lot of people like those grips, but on all 3 of my Smiths they rock magnas. I can't stand the beauty of a work of art destroyed by the sight of rubbers. I honestly feel that not only are the guns themselves a classic, but I feel that the magnas they come with just as classic as the guns themselves. Wood magnas on a blued, nickel OR stainless looks just awesome! I love how the frame is left exposed all the way around with those grips on them. I love the shape of the RB and SB Smiths and the magnas are the only grips that perfect show off those shapes. No box/papers isn't a deal breaker for me, but not having the original grips is.

I have located a mint condition blued, snub model 10 RB for sale online for 555 bucks. Regardless of what I see on here as far as value or price, I NEVER find them for that price. I've seen crappy ones going for as high as 800-1,000 bucks. 800 is about as high as I'd go, and I NEVER see them for as low as $555. Unfortunately I don't have the money right now to buy it. I have a Model 15 and two Model 36's and I love them both. They are both 2 of my all time favorites guns, and so is the 10. I want a mint, blued, snub, RB with the pinned barrel and all those factors together has been hard for me to locate. I wish I had the money, I'd buy it right now. Don't wait too long.

As a novice collector of nickel plated revolvers I thought that the cylinder was the most common place to find the authentic "N" stamp. I now realize after purchasing this M10-7 that the "N" can also be found in any number of places such as the under side of the top strap and on the grip frame so now I question a seller when buying online to expose the "N" to confirm that the firearm is indeed original nickel. Here is my new , not actually sought after, M10-7 accompanied by my favorite "K" frame snub nose M15-4.

Wow, just WOW! Those are both beautiful!! I love that Model 10! I have a blued snub Model 15-3 and it's one of my all time favorite guns. I saw a nickel one, snub and a -3 as well at a show, but couldn't afford it. I love the idea of having both finishes of the same Model. I have 2 identical 36's, one nickel and one blued, both SB snubs and it's AWESOME having both. The 15 is definitely one I want both of. The Chief is probably the only one that I'd like the stainless twin as well, but it has to be pinned, snub and square butt so it'll match the others.

Sorry, I can't advised as to the fit from an aftermarket or new production stock. I can confirm that I am having a hard time finding an acceptable fit from earlier production factory stocks. I think at the time of the 10-5 they were fit exactly to each revolver.

If you look close you can see the frame protruding around the stock. This was the best fit out of 4 round butt K frame stocks.

Is this meaning that k-frames from different periods have slight differences in the shape of the back strap of the grip frame? I sent Jaruwan a question about the fit and he sent back a picture of the grips on a gun with a closer fit. I'm pretty sure it's the same grips as the grips in his picture have a couple of details in the grain that match mine(dark area across the back above the diamond and the vertical pattern through the medallion).

I rarely encounter issues with fit of factory magnas to another revolver.

I do believe in earlier production K frames the grip was fit to each particular revolver. I'm guessing during that time of production there were minor differences in the frames, the reason for numbering stocks to the revolver. I don't believe the difference to be obvious to the eye until another magna stock of slightly smaller proportion, numbered to another revolver, is installed.

I have encountered on more than one occasion a noticeable difference in magna stock sizes for earlier K frames. Most of the time the fit is acceptable but sometimes they seem slightly smaller. This results in the grip frame slightly protruding around the magna stock.

I have also encountered, on less occasions, slightly larger magnas where the near the top of the grip frame, the horn of the magna protrudes slightly above the grip frame. In this instance they were not the early high horn style magnas but we're a mid 1970's era stock. I was installing them on a early 70's K frame.

It also looks like a model 15, 14, 19 or similar was used during production. In the last photo you sent the backstrap is grooved.

This is just my experience. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can provide better information.
