The editor involved in the printing of gun owner's names and address along with a map has been laid off along with 17 journalists and 26 total staffers. This apparently is not related to printing the names of gun owners, rather it is a cost cutting move. I don't rejoice in the trouble of others, but as a professional who has had several layoffs myself you get over it and look for a job. Also in this time being a print journalist would not lead you to the belief that you have a right to lifetime employment. The entire industry is suffering. IMHO a lot of the suffering is self inflicted.

Payback Can Definitely Be a B****H!

We all remember that Westchester-Rockland County rag called the Journal-News, the one that printed the names and addresses of legal gun owners on an interactive map....well, Cyndee Royle, the editor, was fired a couple of days ago. It seems a one Christopher Fountain started a blog called "Keep Up the Heat", where he published the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the staff at the Journal-News, and that definitely got their attention. Well, apparently the owners of the paper have had just about enough, and decided that firing the editor was not enough, so they fired the entire staff.

While it is true that another blogger did a similar retaliatory attack on his blog, by mapping out the same address info of the staff, it should go without saying that any other news media who plans on doing the same thing should stand by for heavy rolls. Conflating law abiding, and legal gun owners with crazed psycho mass murderers will only result in...."You mess with the bulls, and you will get the horn(s)".

Dang....I love a story with a happy ending.

HORNS???? May I suggest the OTHER end?? :D

Ah, Karma! I do feel for all the others that got laid off, though. But, like jaykellogg said, you probably shouldn't look to print journalism these days for a steady paycheck.

Couldn't happen to nicer people. I enjoy a story with a happy ending.

Only thing that could have been better is in the same edition of the paper, List the editor and staff's address and disclaimer that they are well paid and have no firearms for protection in their home, hence leave the house's with firearms alone.

They will not be out of work long--expect them to get work at liberal news places like: The Atlantic Wire and such. If they cant find work there posting fiction--they can go to work for MAD Magazine along with Alfred E. Newman.

I am 68 and I enjoy reading the morning paper with a cup or two of coffee. However younger people do not feel as I do and actually the NEWS on TV is fresher. Print journalism is a dying business. Most of the people laid off will need to relocate and as I said all newspapers are under cost pressure.

Jay,

I agree with you. I still like reading the Wall Street but my local paper I dropped a few years back. I really liked to read a paper every day but the grammar and spelling errors just got under my skin along with the terrible reporting. Folks who read the paper I think want the big W's, Who, What, When ....

When it got to the point I was finding spelling and grammar errors (and I am bad) I just gave up and dropped the print paper. Obviously others do also which is why the print industry is failing.

Awwww, this just really tugs at my sympathy button.....
NOT !!!
What goes around comes around.
